I got offered a free 7-year extension on my digital key. I'm coming to the end of the free 3-year trial on remote connect of which digital key is a feature.

Anyone take this offer or get the same? Anyone opt to pay the monthly for "Remote Connect"?

I'm curious as to why: Is it to compete with the other brands? Genesis Digital Key appears to be for the life of the vehicle. Is it because they want to keep the app on my phone for that lucrative data harvesting?

I guess they are offering it in US since this gadget has not really worked since they introduced it. Maybe they hope to eventually fix it.

 

This is available in the US. When you extend the Digital Key you also get Remote Connect extended as well.

 

Yes, I extended my "Remote Connect + Digital Key" with that offer. Very curious as to why they did that and even more curious why it is only in one market. I speculated in another thread that it could be the result of some tort claim and the settlement was to simply extend it to a full 10 years to anyone who asked for it - which is why you have to respond to that email in order to receive the benefit. Again, just pure speculation on my part but you can bet something happened to force Lexus' hand on this as they don't give anything away for free. Now if we could only get the same bonus for Drive Connect

 

My NX will be three years old in August and I never received a email about extending my digital key. How far before the end of the three years did you get the email? ( yes, I have the digital key option)

 

I have never used the digital key that came with my 2025 NX 450h+. What is the benefit of it and should I be taking advantage of it?

 

I'm not sure if my answer will exactly match your situation, since I only purchased my NX at the first of March and within about a month I received the e-mail. According to the MFG plate in the door, my NX was built in April of 2022. I hope that answers your question. If you didn't receive the e-mail I suppose you could call Lexus. The worst they could do is say "No."

For those with questions about the digital key, there are videos available with a search and it turns your phone into a key. The videos suggest it is slow and unreliable so most people don't use it - but the bonus with this offer is that it extends your remote connect for the same 7 years for free. Frankly, it won't even download for me so I just gave up on it. User mcomer says "don't bother."

I got the email offer about 3 weeks before my 3 year anniversary. I can still lock/unlock remote start from the app.

 

I use my digital key to make sure my car is locked (after my hubby drives) & ensure it is not draining the 12V battery calling to the remote fob. I also use it to start my car and pre cool or pre warm it (depending on time of year).

 

Do you mean the Remote function of the app? Digital key works he same as key if it is in your pocket. Grab the doors, they unlock, push the start button to start the car and touch the door handle to lock, without the physical key. Assuming if it works....

 

Are you saying if the car is left unlocked in the garage, the 12v battery will be draining?

 

I hope they are still offering this when my 2024 hits the 3 year mark.

 

I have read in multiple threads that if the remote fob is within range (not in an RFID pouch or faraday box) the car will keep communicating with it and will thus have some battery drain. You could search other threads with key words (fob unlock battery drain). Apologies, I do not know how to link other threads on here or I would.

As my 3 year anniversary comes up next month, it looks like they send out the email about a month before your 3 year anniversary. Again this is only for US owners, which sucks big time! My 3 years is up next February, hopefully Lexus Canada will offer the same to us.
