Couple things:
2022 NX - my Wife can't take it to the car wash because at the end of the tunnel when she goes to put the transmission in D, it refuses. I've tried it- it refuses- dealer says he has taken 'many' customers thru the car wash to show "how easy it is" - he's good at it (towing the company line that is). We have friends with NXs and they complain about the same problem. They won't sell us another without this problem being fixed.
And,
Do you notice the dates on these posts?
Most people I've heard with cash wash issues, is because they don't know how to put the shifter into neutral. Never heard anyone having issues with putting the car in D. Are you trying to do so while the vehicle is still moving? There are times when the car can be shifted from N to D without the foot on the brake, but there are times when foot on brake is required.

Thanks for the response: as you say the shift from N to D with or without the brake- does the determination of the use of the brake depend on what mood the NX is in at the time?

Yes! And its mood is governed by its speed. This from the manual describing one of several specific situations when the shift request will be rejected:
When attempting to change the shift position from N while stopped or driving at an
extremely low speed with the brake pedal not depressed
So, basically, if the car is stopped or creeping, you need foot on the brake, but I suppose if its rolling along pretty good, you can do so without the brakes.
Tried this out myself on my 350H and if you are completely stopped and in drive and quickly pull the shifter over to left to select neutral it doesn't allow it. Unless you pull it left and hold it in that position for maybe 2 seconds. I think this is setup like this for those circumstances where someone accidentally hits the shift leaver by mistake quickly. The 'hold' time lets the car know you're actually asking for neutral and not hitting it with your coffee cup. When you're moving in drive even slowly without your foot on brake you can select neutral quickly and it works.
If you have put the car in neutral to travel through a guided car wash that pull along one of your wheels as they sit in a rut, when coming to the end you need to pull the shifter to the left and down to put it in drive so you can exit the car wash. If it won't engage then put on the brakes and pull to left and then down to engage drive, It shouldn't matter that braking will cause the wheel to stop rotating and it will hop over the guide bogey wheel, it can take it, it won't hurt anything.
