NX Review
BMW X1 2.0L vs current NX 350h
-similar size and similar power. New X3 approaching RX size. Although the Lexus hybrids particularly the 350h is such a gem.
-BMW fully loaded $21000 cheaper
-both now have 5 year warranty in Australia with replacement car for servicing or warranty repair.
-Only BMW has an upfront 5 year maintenance plan making servicing over 5 years cheaper than Lexus
-reputation of reliability is an issue and have owned BMW before.
Will definitely not keep it beyond warranty.Although extended BMW warranty is cheaper than a Lexus extended warranty!
-Lexus tech needlessly stupid (electronic door locks) and cool features like intergrated drive recorder kept for Japan. 3D camera woeful in Toyota products. Tesla like drive recorder standard on BMW.
-After 3 Lexi (including my current RCF and NX) dealers have been needlessly rude in accessing test drive or even assessing my current NX for a trade in. My impression is that Lexus vehicles are in short supply and dealers just not interested.
- interesting vehicles such as NX 450h, LBX morrizo or IS 500 just not available in Australia. 450h can technically be ordered but an absolute unicorn.

Lexususa dot com doesn’t even have it as an available option on build it now.
I’m waiting for my 350h Luxury to set sail to me (literally). It’s a Japanese build and scheduled to set sail on11/25. Probably won’t get here until end of year, if then. I would just go to another dealer but nobody has much in stock. But, I have been checking out the competition for sure. I like the BMW X1 and there is an M35i available locally similar in price to the Lexus. It’s $58000 before any rebates and negotiation. I could probably get real close to the Lexus but we already have a 22 RX450h so I know I really would like another CVT. Only negative I’ve found on the NX is its exterior looks and the run flats. From the side it kind of looks like the Ford Pinto from years ago. I hate run flats for ride and sound quality. But, along with the maintenance cost the BMW also is not a hybrid and without CVT. Toss in that it also has the Start/Stop feature that I hate. As much as I would like the looks and sportiness (312bhp) BMW I will probably end up staying with the NX. Have had 3 other Lexus that have never seen the service department.
For the most part Lexus has moved to very similar interior designs for all their newer models, good if you like it bad if you want something different. I loved how nice my GS was over the IS and ES. During that time when I got loaners I hated the old NX. My new NX isn't as premium but I like it a lot better than the old gen and the current loaner I have that is a base nx250 I hate and feels severally underpowered and not put together as well as my 450h+. I also like the push button handles, people just don't like the change but it makes more sense to push something to open the door. its also the only silver think on the door that would make sense to be a button or lever to open the door. My only complaint about the hand is it should be single pull to override not double pull. They should have the option to change that to one pull as that the only unintuitive thing about the handles. Guess its meant to make people get used to e-latches and force people to use the safety sense when they exit the car.
My wish for Lexus if they continue with this universal interior design is to add higher quality seats/adjustability for higher trims(maybe massage) and soft close doors should be standard. Could be wrong but don't believe any trim of the RX or TX have those. only GX and LX have massage seats and I believe only the LS ever had a soft close door option.
Styling with anything is always subjective. Some people may really like the piano black. I'm not a big fan so I added this 2 piece trim set that goes around the shifter on the center console and goes up around the Drive Mode ****. It's finished in a matte black wood grain that fits perfect, looks good and looks original. I also added the Alcantara suede cover for the leather shift **** that fits snug and tight and feels good in your hand.
Peace and Goodwill.

To each his own and if you like it great but I don't think it looks very good at all. The crystal **** I mentioned sometime back is a good upgrade for those who wan a better look IMHO. Here is reference to the crystal lighted ****.: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/nx-...l#post11653428

I had previously watched this video and here is my take on it - styling, whether it be on a car or otherwise, is always subjective and up to each person's opinion. Personally I think the squared off front end from the side looks a little like a Mazda but whatever. The electronic door handles I think are a nice feature and no problem at all to adjust to. If you need to keep telling your passengers over and over again how to open and close the door then you need to get some smarter friends. The difference between 4th and 5th generation hybrid systems? Don't really care, 4th. gen is fine by me. The Toyota/Lexus hybrid system is already about as good as it gets. In regards to the run flats I think he is being overly dramatic. I don't find them to be objectionable at all and think they ride fine or certainly good enough but then again I haven't driven the same car wearing the Michelin CC2's to compare but I can't imagine them being so much better that I would run out and spend $1,000+ to just swap them out. If I have the car long enough to replace them then I likely wouldn't replace them with run flats as I don't care that the car doesn't have a spare tire. My XT5 didn't either and just came with a fix a flat air compressor with goop which I would carry in my car now if didn't have run flats. If the run flats picks up a simple nail or screw it can be patched anyway. I am 70 years old and have never had a blowout or totally flat tire in 55 years of driving cars and motorcycles so just not worried about it.
Perhaps the road noise from the RFT is noticeable, but I won't let it ruin my experience. When I'm due for a new set of tires, I'll just replace them with standard tires and move on with my life. I actually really like the storage compartments in the cargo area, as I carry a few smaller items with me that tend to shift around in the back. I haven't been driving as long, but I also have never needed to use my spare. In fact, I think the one in my current vehicle is probably dry-rotted.
People complaining about the RFT now remind me of when some buyers were outraged when CD players were beginning to disappear from new builds. Before settling on the NX350h, I was seeing the same thing in other forums about the lack of spare or the "goo kits" that are coming with hybrids instead of donuts. I guess if I lived in the middle of the desert with no easy access to AAA, I'd be more concerned. However, that's not my situation and I DO, in fact, have AAA; I'm calling them to come help me out regardless because I'm a female who mostly travels alone through densely populated areas and the thought of leaving my vehicle, especially at night, is a no-go. I have a separate car for work, so anywhere I'm traveling in my Lexus will be for leisure/pleasure. If I have to wait for a tow, so be it.

In my 50 years, I have experienced 4 flat tires the first 25 years and 0 flats the second 25 years. Improved tire construction as well as Real Time Pressure readings allow you to detect leaks earlier. My 2005 Rx, I never had to use my Spare except when they rotated the tires during its 19 years of daily commute driving. I have had nails and screws in the tires which were detected by the pressure sensors and repaired the tires but no flat tires. I think if I were driving across country like Doug DeMuro, I would buy a spare tire for my NX and throw it in the back cargo area.

Between my wife and I driven over 1.5 million miles. When working was putting 40,000 miles a year on my vehicles. Probably about ten slow leaks which I pumped up using a bicycle pump I always keep in my trunk. Would drive to a tire place and would get them fixed. A year ago on my RX tires with only 4,000 miles on the tires had a blowout.
I agree RFTs are terrible. The new door system is easy to get use to; except for having to explain and reexplain to passengers. He talks about the front end and from an aerodynamic standpoint it is terrible; it would be easier to taper and lower CD and get much better mpg. The are some engine power train options but not fully inclusive. Lots of comparisons to RAV4. In may ways RAV4 is better : e.g. spare tire, some extra wanted *****, better mpg, better acceleration. It is truly sad that Toyota gets the new features first: safety, new gen drive train, etc. It is like they test features out on Toyota first and then migrate them to Lexus a couple of years later.

You have to explain it to every new passenger. They made them electric and they left an emergency use where you pull twice to unlatch. Why go to all the double expense of an electric and a manual just when you could’ve left it as a manual with a pull instead of a push?
yeah, I really don’t understand why they did the door locks. What was the upside other than it’s different?

Part of my comment was about the fact that they implemented both manual and electric but going in the opposite directions. What was the point of that complexity.
