I agree with you, and I think I might have misconveyed. . He didn’t say this directly, and he definitely didn’t compare the new NX to the first-generation NX. But, in his opinion, the second-generation NX doesn’t have a good-looking front, which I thought was a bit unfair and I thought not true in my opinion. The new NX has an attractive front fascia.
Other car front ends look better and are more aerodynamic. I think the trapezoid is on its last legs. Look at front end on the gen5 Prius (2023 - )
Agreed with him on most things, thought it was a very fair review.
Personally I think the exterior is fine, but I agree that the rear window should be bigger for visibility.
Agree about the unnecessary reinvention of the door handles. Gimmick I think is apt. Same with the HUD and steering wheel controls. Unless they allow complete customization and additional options, its not necessary. Seems both overdeveloped but also unnecessarily limited.
Agree on wishing for buttons for climate control, but I also dont see it as a major point of contention.
Agree about the run flats, would rather not have them. I’ll be replacing them as soon as theyre worn out, and getting a modern spare as well as changing kit. I like to be prepared, and I envy those people who have never had a flat in a situation that theyd rather just GTFO of. I think a spare with kit is a good compromise for me of avoiding the runflats but also having a little backup.
Wish it had the system 5 hybrid, but I can kinda understand why it hasnt yet if its for reliability sake. System 4 is solid, tested, and reliable. Theres value in that too.
Care to mention the wear left on the tire and the circumstances ? Pot hole?
New Pirelli Scorpion tires with about 3,000 miles. On the interstate middle lane going 70 mph. Happened so fast something flew off the back of a pickup truck in my lane. So fast not only no time to react but even see it. A women in an NX I was driving my RX hit the same thing and was about 60 yards behind me on the shoulder. I walked down to check on her and she said thought it was a beach chair. Like I said first blowout sounded like a firecracker. Drivers side rear.
Having both the new RX and NX and Gen4 RX I can say:
1- The new door handles are unnecessarily complicated and might be more troublesome in the future. The Handles on Gen4 RX are far superior
2- The haptic steering wheel buttons are also unnecessarily complicated and difficult to learn and fully utilize. Lacking some features while cruise control is active. Again Gen 4 RX has superior steering control buttons
3- I do Like the new shifter
4- I think the NX looks better than new RX
5- I think the hood double latch is to eliminate the vibration that plagued the RAV4s
6- Definitely love the advancements in LSS+ 3.0. Soo smooth and easy to drive around town and highway cruising
7- I don't mind the Touch screen only controls. Took a bit to get used to it. Setting everything to Auto eliminates the need for most of the HVAC buttons on a regular basis
I got to say that the new door handles have saved my driver side door. I was parked at the parking lot and I did look to see if there was a car coming before opening the door, but a Ford F-150 zooms by at high speeds when I was opening the door and it was close - crazy close. It did stop me from opening the door. I do not mind the new handles and definitely use to them already. I tend to push my other cars' door when I drive the other car now.
I think the problem we have here is there has been feedback that the tech in the older Lexus vehicles are outdated and old. When they put newer things in we have people saying they don't like it. I don't think the designers can please the world with their designs.
If you don't have the headsup display you do get the steering wheel with all the buttons. So there is options. I don't mind it and I'm not old school folks and do accept new things.
Only time will tell if the electronic locks or the touch sensitive steering wheel buttons will cause issues.
I agree with the Electronic Locks and the Steering wheel controls. I wish they had an audible for when the doors lock or open and had the green light on the door like the LC 500. It would be nice if the unlabled steering wheel controls were setup like the Toyota Lexus fixed ones. It is reveresed. On the fixed buttons to set the cruise control its the bottom button for the changeable one its the top button. I preferred the Toyota/Lexus stalk cruise control. Other than that, I like my NX and glad I went to the NX from the RX at this time in my life.
Appearance wise, the F Sport front end is by far the best looking. That's why I swapped mine.
I totally agree—it's pretty disappointing that the North American market doesn't get the F Sport design package for the 350H variant. Hopefully, they'll offer it next year! If not, I wonder what other updates or changes they might make in the next model.

That's a fair point of view! After reading through all the forum replies and hearing from several reviewers, it seems like more people aren't a fan of this feature. It'll be interesting to see how Lexus handles it in the next iteration. But since they've used these door handles on multiple models, it looks like they might stick with them for a while.

I am glad you were safe, but what you describe has nothing to do with the new inside door handles, it is part of Lexus Safety System +3 and is on is on a lot of other Toyotas and Lexuses.
For the first time in 15 years I will not be updating my Lexus with another Lexus.
My 2015 NX200t has had its long list of problems but the dealer has always looked after me.
Had the new NX for 2 weeks while a 2nd rear oil seal was being installed in the 2015.
The interior is such a step down from my NX. The dash marks so easily and is a slab of black soft plastic. Piano black, really. And the electronic doors answer a question no one is asking. Not even a digital dash like the Rav4.
The new 2.5 hybrid.is an absolute gem, however. One of the best, torquiest and smoothest engines out there. Would have bought it just fir the engine but not enough to sway the family or the missus.
Hello BMW X1.
I had 2015 200t for 7 years, comparing to the new one old had more expensive interior, instead of piano black it had dark gray matte plastics with something like glitter in it. Two level front dash with fake wood insert on passenger side, softer nulux, soft opening cup holders with button in back armrest (only RX has them now), cd player, full size transmission stick. Perforated and patterned seats both in front and rear (now only in front). Also rear seats are easily adjustable with side level while passengers are sitting, in new ones there is no level but handle on top of the back seat. In old one rear seats looks and built better. I checked several NXs and all of them had very poor rear seats, the nulux material not tightly attached to the rest of the seat if puffs up crooked or just uneven. These are the old ones:
Pay attention to its quality and level on the side and the crushing height, these are the new ones:
From what I understand you can have high quality seats only in f sport and possible in luxury package. They also removed spare tire. I guess all money when to electric latches…. And infotainment system with UI with text and squares from windows 98.

Very interesting way to get around the tremendous inflation and price rise in the last four year and keep the prices somewhat reasonable. Thinking back, my 1997 ES300 had luxury features way ahead of its time. Many were promulgated to carry through on only the LS and other higher end models.
The abundance of piano black on the current NX was most likely a decision to reduce costs and save Lexus money. Instead of Lexus innovating and standing out they are just following what other manufacturers are pushing.
The huge black dash is also an uneventful design. Adding some trim or stitching to help break up the sea of black would have elevated the interior to a more premium feel and look. The current look of the upper dash just has no personality. Instead of addressing these issues with the last refresh, they just colored the glove box and side panels with more color which may or may not have helped to some owners but it still needs additional work to bring it to Lexus known standards of luxury.
The shifter needs some work as well. Its current look is sterile and cold. The little leather nub is not enough, it needs to show more warmth, nicer leather wrap, the nub is too small and it could use some additional stitched leather boot. This would create more warmth. More premium trim materials around shifter instead of fingerprint piano black. This is not rocket science and Lexus engineers know how to create this. I can only think it’s a money savings rule they’re using instead of true Luxury enhancements.
