Default Tire suggestion

Hey all,

So I recently had a flat and plugged it, but I’m going to use this as an excuse to get regular tires instead of the run flats. Can anyone suggest good tires?

also, what did you do in terms of having a spare? There isn’t a spot for a spare tire

Where in NY are you?

I'm in NYC and I plan on switching to Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 when my runflats wear out. If you live more upstate with higher snowfall, I would probably go with the Michelin Cross Climate 2 if you don't want to run a dedicated winter tire.

As for the spare, a lot of us use theis Modern Spare kit.

If you have a hybrid, you are out of luck in terms of storage under the trunk floor. If you have one of the gas models, you can remove the storage bins and place the spare tire there.

I'm thinking about tires also but my vehicle isn't ready for it yet.

I'm thinking Michelin Cross Climate 2 or YokohamaGeolandar X-CV.

Another thread has been discussing this a lot.

they mentioned that the CC2 lowers the MPG by 2-3. Would that be worth it?

No IMO. We don't get enough snowfall these days to warrant it. Our roads are usually cleared out after any snowfall anyway.

That's the part that I have been thinking if the ride is harsher and I'm not sure about lowering MPG. I saw a few other videos online from youtubers that have the CC2 and they claimed MPG is around the same but the ride is noisier.

The tires are harder so it will last longer and is pretty good over snow (we don't have snow in CA). I'm undecided yet and also I hope the RFT last a bit. Some people mentioned it's lasts to around 25K miles with 5K rotation.

I was also looking at Yokohama and that's a softer tire so it probably won't make it to the mileage. Both are around the same price.

I have the 20" wheel but there are more selection for the 18" wheel.

I wonder if having less mpg is worth the switch? On the website on discount tires, it says it gives higher mpg.. is this 100% confirmed?

Should I just go back to the factory run flats or is there a better one?

The rating on the OEM RFT are not that great in the rain per reviews. I will find out this winter to know more.

thank you thank you. I kinda skimmed through to certain sections like and it seems like the choice, but my only concern is the drop in mpg

I’ve had both the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 and Cross Climate 2. The CC2 is (surprisingly) quieter, but does lower my MPG by about 1 MPG. Both are excellent, but I prefer the CC2.

Not everyone sees a drop in mileage, Based on pure physical specs (exact same diameter) and the CC2 weighing less IMHO the reported mile mileage drop to me is not convincing. I am getting CC2 when I need to replace, but since I don't drive the NX very much ( actually I don't drive that much period) it may be awhile.

YMMV,

What were your thoughts on ride comfort and handling between the two?
