Default 2nd key...

Bought 2024 NX 350 last year primarily for my wife. Took about 6 months for second key to come in. There seems to be a slight problem...

It appears to be missing the mechanical key blade. Car was dropped off at my house with this new key after 10k service. Didn't notice this until later.

Wanted to check if this is "normal" before I "voice" my concerns to my service advisor.

When you got your vehicle it should have a keyfob and a mechanical key. You should check with the dealership where they put it.

I am a little confused, is this a new fob as in second key fob? If so then when you got your car 6 month ago, they gave you a fob and two mechanical keys 1st one bein already in your first fob, so you should have your mechanical key already, and they gave you a second fob, if that is the case.

So this is the second fob which we had to wait 6 months to get from Lexus. Dealership just programmed it and returned it with the car after 10k service. Originally, we got one fob with mechanical key, but I do not recall ever getting a second mechanical blade minus fob. Was just wondering if mechanical blade is my responsibility. Which would be a bit odd, but hence the question.

That seems to be the easiest way to go. Let me send them a non-confrontational, 0-sarcasm email this morning with this pic and see what they say.

Yes, the mechanical key for the 2nd fob should have been provided to you on day 1, for eventual use in your second fob as the mkey is (relatively) unique to your car's key cylinders, not the fob. Also IIRC there is also an ID strip provided that I think identifies the cut of the key just in case a replacement mkey is ever needed in the future. If the dealer forgot to provide these for you, ouch, as I'm guessing they'd have no idea where it is now. But I would thoroughly check all the nooks and crannies of your glove and console box, and also within the manual pouches as I think this is where they usually are when no one is paying attention to them.

Good to know! I should be able to easily get in touch with the salesman who sold us the car. He should be able to point me in the right direction. In meantime, l'm going to go ahead and search all the areas you mentioned.

Mechanical key is nowhere in the car, but I did get a hold of our sales rep... apparently he has it! Will be dropping it in the mail. Odd sequence of events... but all is well I guess. Glad I kept his contact info.

Btw, my second key for IS 500 came in programmed within a few weeks with the mechanical key included. Didn't even need to show up, it was mailed to my house.

Problem solved!

But thanks for starting the thread because now I know why I was given a mechanical key when the dealer handed to me the Lexus "smart access key card," it's to go in the second fob when it arrives!

I happen to be B2B customer facing, and I am quite sure that if something similar had happened on my watch, first comment from the customer would have been... "don't you guys talk to each other?"

Overall, It took far longer than originally promised and comms could have been handled a lot better all around, but problem solved.

I had the same issue when I got my 2nd FOB. I called them and they said I should have gotten it on day 1. Went back to check my documents/package and it was there. The sales rep probably mentioned it but I probably forgot as our eyes focusing on the fresh new car

When we picked up the NX the first time this April we were given one key fob with two mechanical keys and their code number,

It was 6 months ago when I purchased my NX and I called the corp Lexus directly last Friday and the automated message said I had 1 recall. So I listen to the message that the 2nd key fob is ready and to call the lexus dealer to check. I called the lexus dealer and they said to they will put in the order for the key fob after verifying my details and vehicle.

Today, I picked up the 2nd key fob.

Glad I was able to pickup the key fob that's all I can say for now.

Soooo, be careful pulling the door key slot cover which I did to test the mechanical key. If you use the key blade as they tell you to do, you will definitely do some damage. I used a plastic trim tool instead.
