I tried recently Google Maps on my 2024 ES350 UL (I normally use Waze or Apple Maps) and to my surprise the map stopped working in split screen mode. It works fine in full screen map. Tried my wife’s 2023 Nx350h and the same thing. Waze and Apple Maps work fine in full and split screen modes, but Google Maps freezes in split screen. My wife and I both have iPhone 15 pro, latest FW and use Wireless CarPlay. Does anyone’s Google Maps work in CarPlay split screen mode?

 

Using AA I have no problem at all.

 

Google Maps will work in both of my cars in both full and split screen however, there are often times when I am driving and I select Google Maps, I just get a white
screen and no map! If I shut the car off and then restart it, it normally comes back on. Not exactly very convenient. My iPhone is hardly close to new. It's an iPhone 8 Plus.

 

I have been chasing this issue on and off in the last few days or so and I had instances where the map screen shows nothing when switched to split screen mode. Other instances show the relevant portion of the current map at the start, but it stays frozen. I wasn’t able to get a moving split screen Google Map yet, but will try again.

 

So this morning I tried Google Maps again, and as I experienced all of last week, it worked fine in full screen mode but blank in split screen. So I used StefanoS suggestion and reset the multimedia system while driving, and to my surprise it started working properly, and kept on working after turning the car off. It seems like the rebooting did the job and apparently, the morning startup may not be equivalent to a hard press volume **** reboot….

 

I haven't had any issues using Google Maps in split screen from my iPhone. For those that are experiencing the issue, do you have the 9" or 14" screen? I'm curious if its limited to one or the other. I have the 14".

 

I have the 14" on both cars. What was very strange is that the same problem showed up on two cars, 2024 ES350UL and 2023 Nx350h Luxury. Restarting the cars in the morning did not fix the problem (at least for the week long or so I was chasing the issue). What fixed it for me was a reboot while I was driving, so I did the same on my wife's car and now everything works fine with Google Maps (Waze and Apple Maps worked fine the whole time...).

 

the only way i've gotten it to work 100% of the time is to allow Google Maps background app refresh access AND set location tracking to "always allow" and NOT just while using app. you may not want to do this for privacy reasons but that's what you have to give up to get it to work... or switch to apple maps which honestly isn't that bad now;.
