I believe there is a setting in the menu to control this behavior, but I cannot recall precisely where it is located so you may want to explore a bit. It might also help to know the model year of your car as I understand the 2023s are a bit different.
I haven't tried setting that to off to see what the start up screen is after a car shut down and restart cycle so that setting's behavior may not yield the "preserve last screen display setting and use it for next start up" behavior that fun1170 is looking for.
On 2019 - 2022 model year's with 8 inch displays (i.e., those not equipped with navigation), there is a different setting than the "Auto Change to Screen" setting. Instead, there is a “Customize Home Screen” menu item at the end of the above menu chain. But a literal reading of that menu item's description doesn't suggest it will give fun1170's desire behavior of starting up to the same screen as the one displayed when the system was last shut down.

I use the CarlinKit wireless CarPlay and my screen always defaults to whatever CarPlay screen I used last which is usually Waze. Without the wireless CarPlay, I agree, it always goes to the split screen homepage.
Ok so Lexus said it was normal, if you have Android auto, it will start each time you start the car.
So, I'm somewhat **** retentive and found this.
This is not a perfect solution, but there is a setting on the android auto app that allows you to change the default. The setting is under "start android auto automatically".
3 choices
1- Always (default)
2- If used on the last drive
3- Default (set by the car)
I selected 2. You have to restart the app (I just restarted the phone).Sure enough if it was not used on the last drive (not sure if used at any time or last before turning the car off,...yet) it does not start and stays on your last source.
Hope that helps someone else.

I just clean mine every other week with my spray 'no rinse wash and wax' and then a spray on carnuba car wax onto it, only using microfiber cloths (replace those cloths often). No scratches so far. Did this with my Acura ( 2yrs and no scratches) and with my Honda ( 4 years, no scratches). Friends ask me if I ever use the touch screens because they look brand new.
My biggest issue with the built-in nav is it doesn't hold your selected view. If you have the map in the angled view and then change from nav to anything else (radio, settings, etc.) and go back to the nav it defaults back to the overhead view every time and there is no way to change that.
