I walked into a Lexus dealership and was initially told there's a 12+ month waiting list for NX450H+. However, after I managed to express my firm interest in getting one, salesman said they have a couple of vehicles allotted to them and scheduled to arrive in next couple of months. Mentioned there's a waiting list of about 7 people and if we are interested in putting a deposit on one of the cars, he would take that and said he would confirm in a couple of days, after checking with those ahead of us, Couple of days passed and no contact yet. i am beginning to wonder if this all sounded too good to be true, knowing there's a long waiting list. How could I put down a deposit and have a great chance of getting one in the next couple of months? Beginning to wonder if this was a tactic to get me to put down a deposit on a "2024 NX450H+".
I understand how there's a waiting game for desired models. Has supply of the 450H+ eased enough in the USA to be available in a couple of months if you are not picky about color?
We recently purchased a 450h+. Waited only 1 week but we had to drive 500 miles to pick it up. If you go to the Lexus website and search for the car you can see what dealers have or will soon have within a radius or X miles. That may be an option for you?

That's an option but nothing close by so we put a deposit at the local dealer. I'm not sure how these inventories work though. Their site showed several NX350H models in "inventory" but the salesperson said all are spoken for and none of them on the lot to check out. Apparently even longer wait for the 350H.
Anyways, not liking this whole song and dance about inventories and non-transparent waits.
Tesla is churning out cars like crazy but Lexus unable to provide timeline on delivery. What happened to all that Toyota manufacturing prowess?

Tesla may be the new wonder child of the automotive industry, but Toyota still makes almost 10X the number of vehicles. Its supply and demand, a lot, and I mean A LOT more people seem to want a Toyota vs a Tesla.
Not to mention Toyota/Lexus is making 30+ models whereas Tesla makes 4. Tesla is certainly efficient and their car manufacturing process keeps their costs low relative to other EVs. However, it's also why some people don't like Tesla because they all look the same.

I have reported on sales numbers for the NX and they have sold a lot more than year than last. There seems to be some on lots in California, but other places there are still people waiting. They said there are 7 ppl waiting, but it's also possible that the cars allotted are not what they want (color/options). So they would call up the 7 people and see if they are interested or not. If not, then there could be a car that is available for you - if you don't mind the color and options that are included.
In my experience (1 to 2 months ago), the 350h models you’d see online through Lexus or the dealers, once you check with the dealer, were spoken for. However most of the 450h+ units were not already spoken for. However overall there were more 350h deliveries than 450h+.
OP here. As my original post a month ago suggests, I was "offered" to be placed in waiting list of a NX450h+. I was told that the salesperson would get back to me in a "couple of days" after contacting others ahead of me (said 7 were in the wait list). If no one claimed it, I was told I would get the car by first week of September. I haven't heard back from the salesperson since that time. Left a couple of messages over the last month and no response at all. Not even to an email I sent him. Not sure what to make of it. I clearly don't have a car. If I did, I would know.
The "sales agreement", which includes a deposit, didn't specify a VIN but a separate print out of the details of the car, given to be by the salesperson, includes a VIN. I looked up the VIN and it is valid and is what I was "offered". How will I know if that car has already been sold to another person?
What are my options here:
1) talk to the sales manager and complain about the lack of response from the salesperson?
2) send another email to the salesperson (this is a written record, even if the salesperson ignores it) seeking clarification?
Any other options? I'm still interested in the car and understand that I could be waiting several months for it, but would like some clarity.
This kind of sales tactics is strongly pushing me to go back to Tesla. I had a Model 3 extended range for 3 years and sold it last year because of concerns about range (based on two 2000+ mile trips). Tesla is able to make cars quick enough and you can buy online without hassle.

Definitely talk to someone at the dealership, starting with the sales manager, and ask for the status of your hoped for car. Be the squeaky wheel!
If they are local go down there and ask for the sales person. If they say that he is not here ask for a manager. Be nice and just ask, then go over your situation and you are just looking for some update as your purchasing decisions may depend on the update. You just want to know if this deposit secured the vehicle of if you need to hit the internet looking for a car. They will not want a sale to walk so they will take care of you. You have been more than patient and again keep it civil and "matter of fact'. You just need an answer as to whether you need to keep looking or not. Good luck.
Update to wrap up the thread. Emailed customer support and got a response from a sales manager. Was offered another car with a Red interior and we signed paperwork to commit to it. Expected delivery by mid October.

Congratulations.... 440 days since my order was made, nothing yet.
I compromised on the exterior and interior colors in the interest of cutting down on wait time. I don't know why Lexus can't make a car with a specific exterior/interior combination subject to losing deposit if you don't buy when the car is delivered. Instead they seem to just ship whatever color combinations they think will sell quickly and force those with other preferences to wait incredibly long times.
