Default windshield crack

I got a crack on my windshield a couple of days ago. Has anyone had to replace one yet? How much did it cost? I see the MSRP of the windshield from Lexus is over $1,000!

This should be covered by the comprehensive part of your insurance policy, non-collision damage including windshields, with a usually small deductible.

I have a no deductible for glass on this car. It only covers OEM Equivalent glass not Lexus Glass. Lexus glass is a $560 up charge.

I guess I'm going to pay the extra for Lexus Glass.

I'd reach out to your insurance agent. I was in similar situation the first day I drove a perfect CT200 certified pre-owned. Insurance was going to install generic but I was able to persuade an OEM, due in part to complexity of functions in the windshield. They might not agree, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

I recently replaced my windshield with my insurance (Progressive) at my friend's shop. Progressive work through SafeLite to repair and replace windshields. You can request to have the windshield replaced with an OEM at a approved shop, as long as the quoted work to replace the windshield is within "reasonable price".

I had my 2017 ES350's windshield replaced a 5 years back, but i didn't have glass replacement coverage. So it will come out of my comprehensive coverage ($1K deductible). So I called my friend/agent and had him changed the deductible to the lowest ($100 was the lowest), paid the premium different (wasn't much maybe less than $100). Anyway, my friend/agent told me NOT to get it fix until a month or two, which I am ok with since it was a small crack. A month or so later, called the Insurance company, filed a claim and requested Lexus OEM windshield and they instantly approved. Long story short, $1200 was the total replacement cost, didn't need any camera calibration either.

My buddy's son has a 2019 NX300 F Sport. Went with Safelite and he said no issue. That was a couple years back.

insurance is handling full cost. Aside from price is that it’s not available. This hurts.
it’s now a garage queen
