Where will my new car be assembled??
My two cents for what it's worth. Chip shortage is slowly becoming a non issue globally. I would guess Cambridge Ontario Canada plant is heading towards maximum capacity for both RX and NX models. I believe plug in models will continue to come from Japan until an official notice is released, which would involve more retooling at Cambridge plant if and when it comes. Toyota is always very systematic and ramps up slowly all their new product line assembly plants. That's part of the 'Toyota Way'. I have a 2022 NX350h Executive that was built in Cambridge, it has every option. Build date sticker on driver door post states August 2022, but not a day. It sat in their staging lot at assembly plant until November waiting for an amplifier component and a parking brake component. I'm sure these parts most likely were sourced by Toyota's local (North American) supply chain. They may most likely be still in a ramp up stage. Body panel gaps are still being improved upon, trim and other component alignment is improving, paint finish is improving. Mine is eminent white in colour, white is always very hard to do well. Plastic components don't match metal parts bang on always. My salesperson let me know that at the time the same paint colour being used on RX was having issues on new NX vehicles so they were slowing things down to resolve the problems. Take a notice at some domestic companies white and you'll see the white is slightly different on bumper compared to sheet metal.
Japan started to build all NX's for the world initially shipping began in late of 2021 globally. As noticed by all the car reviews for it in the Fall / Winter 2021, these would have been preproduction builds for media etc. Almost all initial sales to the USA were from Japan. Australia UK Europe are built in Japan I believe. I think we may still be seeing some vehicles come from Japan for sale in USA and maybe even for sale in Canada too. My guess is by late summer early fall almost all will come from Canada. Keep in mind though both RX and NX sales are booming right now so Japan may be looked at to supplement our sales here in North America as needed.

Wherever it comes from, my wife and I are expecting a long wait for a NX 350 h (deposit placed in Mid-January 23) in Florida. It's our first choice since we are former Lexus owners. Our second choice in a 23 Lincoln Corsair- which is assembled in Louisville KY -- where production has been completely halted for more than a month due to software issues and who knows what else? I don't think there is a 23 Corsair for sale in the state. We have learned that patience is a virtue. We shall see.
