Default Made in Japan or Canada

Sorry if this was discussed previously but are most of RX350 built in Canada (for US residents?) I am told by my dealer that only the Hybrids are made in Japan. Edmunds seem to indicate that all 2014 RX's are made in Japan.

Thanks

Currently, all hybrid RXs are built in Japan, though I've read that Lexus may add hybrid production to the Ontario plant. Not sure if that's correct.

As for the RX350, they are built both in Ontario and Japan. I believe the bulk of those for the US are built in Canada, though mine was built in Japan.

Thank you. I would prefer to get one made in Japan but is this by luck thing or region?

I'm not sure how they divvy them up.

But I seriously would not worry about whether it was built in Canada or Japan. Most of them come from Canada, and the RX is rated as the most reliable vehicle on the road, so the Canadian built RXs are obviously very solid.

Is quality your concern, or is there another reason you would prefer a Japan built RX?

Must not be by region. I just looked at the inventory of my local Lexus dealer. They have 30 RX350s online, and 22 of them were built in Canada.

As I understand it, all north american bound RX 350's and F sport models are "assembled" in Canada. Only the hybrid version is made in Japan!

No, we still get a good number of Japan built RX350s here. As noted, 8 Japanese built ones at my dealer, and mine was assembled in Japan.

Perhaps the info I received from the dealer about build locations were only talking about the "F sport" models all being assembled in Canada for the North american market .

That's very possible. All of the F Sports at my dealer were assembled in Canada. Sounds like a plausible explanation.

Yeah, I was only asking the dealer about the build location for an F sport. Never asked about the RX 350 non sport! Then again, I found out how little most sales associates know about the cars when I was doing my research before the purchase. I realized that I knew more about the different models than they did! lol!

Thank you everyone. I can really careless but this thread is reminding me of that controversy with an ex Honda exec who were allocating made in Japan Accords to his favorite dealers...

My '14 RX350 AWD was made in Japan. Wonder if they manufacture the 2 WD's in Canada and AWD's in Japan.

I think special orders are more likely to be fulfilled from Japan.

All F-Sports for the N. American market are built in Cambridge, ON.

All 450h are built in Japan, until early 2014, 15,000 units will be provided from Canada. The remaining RX350s come from Canada or Japan.

Rest assured, the Canadian-built RXs come from a top-rated manufacturing plant among all those in the world.
