Interested in getting a dashcam... I hear their resolution sucks, despite the inflated claims of 4K and what not. For example, being able to read a license plate is more an exceptional situation than the norm.
Any recommendations and what to look out for?

I have a FitCamX in my NX. Had one in my RX as well. Works great and is completely stealthy from an installation perspective. This time I've purchased the rear view camera as well, just haven't installed that as yet. Waiting for warmer weather before messing around wiht the car trim bits in cold weather.

I had the BlackVue DR900X Plus. Picture and video are very crisp as it records in 4K at 30FPS.

They released the 970X few days ago, which is supposed to be even clearer. I will be installing that once it arrives.

I opted to get my wife the OEM Lexus dash cam installed when we purchased her car last week. So far so good. It does what it’s supposed to do. No complaints

I also purchased the FitCamX. The install was a bit of a PITA to stuff the wires in there, but overall it looks OEM and works. The app is also janky

I just got the (probably) most expensive Dashcam available, the Lexus Integrated Dashcam, to my '22 NX 350h. It does work well, however I have no experience with dashcams. The iPhone app sucks! Very difficult to connect, and when connected it disconnects CarPlay. However the app is not necessary unless you wanted to show someone the video at an accident site.

The desktop viewer is outstanding!

Files are saved in MP4 format that can be viewed without a specialized app.

Since 2023. I have 3 dashcams installed in my nx 350 f sport. Fitcam X, Nexar One and Ring. I think Ring is the best.

Yes it does, see the quote from the manual. I had a triggered Parking recording today, however I could not see why, and no damage to the car.

Quote:
When the vehicle shuts down and then waits 2m 45s, the Parking mode starts. The parking recording is triggered by G-sensor and takes 5 seconds to boot up and record 1 minute of footage per G-shock event. Oldest file deleted once Parking Recording allocation is full. This over-writing can be turned off in the app, but may result in files not being captured if memory is full.

If the plates are clear I can read them quite easy, however this time of year everybody's car is filthy, especially the plates. Here is a night shot of a somewhat clean plate, I think if it was actually clean it would be able to be read.

And, daylight:

Doesn’t always mean someone hit your car. It could be countless of things honestly.
