Default Navi Map Update

Hey folks, has anyone ponied up the $220 plus labor to update their Navi? That just sounds crazy and even the latest maps likely are not up to date. Has anyone bought anything off of eBay?

I have a 2016 NX with the original 2015 maps and don't mind spending a little money to get current but that just seems outrageous.

I have a 2016 NX and had the map update. Cost around $300.00 from the dealer

I asked my dealer in March about the navigation update. $315.95 plus tax here in Ontario.

Yes, that is outrageous!

What's sad is a top-of-the-line 6.95" Garmin with traffic, lifetime maps and weather is $179 US. I'm not a big Tesla fan but every 3 or 4 months they upgrade many of the features of the car for "free" (high sticker price not withstanding). So you buy a 4-cylinder and within a year are upgraded to a V8.

I have a 2020 NX and when Lexus offers an update in a year or two, I will decline. If where I want to go isn't on the NAV, I will use Google Maps on my Android phone. I can attach the phone and use Android Auto, see the map on the screen and problem solved.

We updated our 2015 in the fall of 2018. It was over $300 which is why we didn’t do it sooner. If we keep the car long enough, we will update it again in the fall of 2021.

Unfortunately, those of us with older models don't have that ability.

You can install a GROM VL2 Android unit. Much more cost effective you are thinking of spending $300 on just the map update. I would love to do it on our NX since its out warranty and will jump on it in my GS once its out of warranty as well:

From what I heard, the ebay maps have issues. Don't buy from there.

I recently acquired a 2005 RX 330. Love all the bells & whistles! BUT the nav system was set on a different par t of the US! Figured out how to manually reset it to my area, BUT NOW... when I’m driving down we’ll known roads it looks like there’s no such road. When I tried to use the nav system to take me to a well known place, it directed me exactly opposite of the directions I was going! I was able to sync my phone to it; can receive & make calls which is great! I’ve been using maps on my phone because I trust it more. I’m wondering how to update my system?! I called Lexus & they said I had to take it to a dealership, but I keep getting busy signals, transferred to voicemail, etc. Can anyone help?

I updated my Lexus vehicles myself. I think most are similar like the ES350 and GS350 but note the radio may use a different microSD card.

What you probably want to do is to purchase the NAVI microSD card at the dealer only and not have them install it. If it's microSD card, it should be pretty easy setup. The dealer should know which microSD Card you will need for your vehicle. Swap the miscroSD card with the vehicle off, then turn on and do the update. It may take 5-10 minutes. Check if you have this on your vehicle first.

You do not have to take it to your dealer to have it updated, but you do need to buy a new navigation CD from your Lexus dealer, or wherever else you can get one.

I used to have a 2006 Rx400h, and finding and replacing the navigation CD is the same for the all the older Rx models.

Turn on the ignition, open the rear hatch, pull back the floor mat, open the floor storage area lid, and you'll find the CD slot in the forward/right area of the lower storage area. With the ignition on (and standing on your head), slide the switch to the left (toward the front of the car) and eject the CD.

After replacing the CD with a new one, slide the switch aft, close the cover, close the hatch, turn off the ignition, and you're done.

As I recall, the new CD cost around $100USD in 2012, and the dealer wanted another $100 to install it...
