Default Auto leveling headlights and more

Hello all...new to the forum after purchasing an NX200T Executive package less than a week ago. Loving it so far but have a couple questions:

In the description of what comes with the executive package, it mentions Auto Leveling Headlamp System...I believe this is in addition to auto high beams but perhaps it's the same thing. Can anyone clarify? My girlfriends Golf TDI has active headlights that turn when her car does...I don't see any motion in mine and don't believe it has this capability.

As for my other (dumb) question...when I turn my NX on I can hear what sounds like a wind rushing noise, similar to AC on med to high setting, coming from what seems to be the back seat. It's present even without the fan on. I thought maybe it was radio hiss but it's not. When I get in the back, it's more difficult to place...is this just a sound produced in the engine compartment by the turbo? Anyone else notice this?

That sound is probably your cooling seats.

Uechiman, welcome to the forum.

Auto levelling headlamps is just that, the beam auto-levels much like a level tool. There is no turning of the lights.

Auto high beam is an additional feature that will turn off your high beams when it detects an incoming car . The sensor is on the top of the windshield behind the rear view mirror, and beside the lane keep assist camera.

Yes, what he said...and to add a bit more, they work to level the beam out when you are going uphill or downhill, not side to side while going around curves or turning.

I noticed the same thing. It took me a week to figure it out, (the seat cooling). PS. There are no dumb questions, but I've seen some pretty dumb answers.

Here's something I don't quite get.
My opinion on this has always been that auto levelling headlights are meant to level out the low beams in the event that you are either carrying something heavy in the boot, or having extra passengers in the rear, causing the rear to sit lower, thus raising the beam, hence auto levelling to ensure that the beams don't constantly blind oncoming traffic. Nothing to do with going uphill or downhill, as every auto levelling car I've had in the past will STILL shine the beams upward when I'm pointed up the hill, thus any oncoming driver cresting the hill in front of me will still get hit by the beams.

Now, I've seen this kind of reply before, which then begs the question, does auto levelling work differently in the states? Do your low beams constantly point horizontal whether or not you're going uphill or downhill? Do they constantly point horizontal when you go over a speedbump?

I would think that your scenario (something heavy in the trunk or a full backseat) and the car traveling uphill or downhill would cause the sensors to behave the same and auto level. I mean, how could the car tell the difference? All it knows is that one of its ends is higher than the other and it needs to adjust the beams accordingly. Right?

Well, there are a few more details.

1) there is a sensor on the rear swingarm that detects how much it is depressed. So, if there was a heavy load in the rear, that would compress the rear more than the front, causing the the headlight leveller to adjust. The same would not be true going uphill, as the rear is not being compressed by a heavy weight.

2) the auto levelling kicks in only after a few seconds of no movement, otherwise it would be adjusting with every single bump in the road. So, technically, if I was driving along, and suddenly a cow jumps into my boot, the headlights would not auto level until I come to the next stop sign.
