I've been reading around and was wondering if the North American NX have the Stop & Start system (other than the hybrid)?

A LEXUS FIRST STOP & START SYSTEM
Lexus' first Stop & Start system is introduced in the NX 200t. The system automatically stops the engine when the vehicle has temporarily come to a standstill, helping to conserve fuel and reduce emissions. The engine then automatically restarts when you release the brake pedal and without a moment's delay you are ready to resume your journey.

 

I can tell you for certain that my NX200t does not do this!

BMW offers this in North America. It can be disabled by the driver, and automatically disables itself based on the outside temperature and congested roadway conditions. Nice feature; I wonder though if it results in more emissions due to re-starts.

 

I have never been a fan of this feature.

You will always burn more gas when you "start" as compared to sitting and idling when its constant starting and stopping.

Additionally, this has to be terrible for the battery, and by relation, the alternator and starter with repeated starts.

I think this feature is more of a "feel good" feature that someone can tell their friends "oh look, I save gas while my car sits as a light! derp"

 

I do believe my 300h uses the start-stop technology.
Toyota has been using it for years, and now it's in the Lexus line because of it's proven trouble free advantages in it's hybrids.

 

Not necessarily. I don't know in the USA, but here in Australia and Europe, we have a lot of train railway crossings and sometimes we can sit at a traffic light for up to 10 minutes. Auto start/stop is very common here, almost all cars here have them.

In the USA, you don't pay less road tax for have start/stop so that's why it's disabled for US models.

 

If my 200t had this, I'd turn it off.

For hybrids, it's fine because you can accelerate under battery power until the ICE kicks in. I had a rental Ford Fusion with this and it sucked. You'd press the gas, wait a second, then it would kick in.
