Default 12v Power When NX is Parked

Hello,

I would like to have 12v power (somewhere, anywhere) in my 2020 NX, available when it is parked (motor off). Any suggestions?

This is for a low-power device, and I really only need a measly 4v.

Any ideas?

Where would be the most convenient location for your intended accessory?
Popular interior "12V at all times" points are the map/dome lights assembly, doors, and OBD2 diagnostic port.

From a power consumption viewpoint, it is the current that is important, not the voltage. You may only need 4V, but 12V-15V is the only option readily available. You will need a converter module to obtain a constant 4 volts, and that will use some battery reserve power at all times..

I have no preference as to location (given a choice I would want it somewhere near the dashboard.

My top priority is to be as neat and unobtrusive as possible.

I can deal with the voltage issue.

I need to use this power continually for about 9 hours a day, while the NX is parked. I expect that the small amount of oomph required for the device would not be a burden on the battery (I hope I'm right).

I'm looking to power a MiFi device (a wireless cellular hotspot device).

Here is the pin layout and wire colors for the Data Link (On-board diagnostics port) connector. he one in your NX may be mounted in an inverted position relative to the drawing. Location is just to the right of the hood release. Rather than tapping into the blue wire, you could look for 2 mating connector pins and plug them into terminals 16 and 5. Another option is to purchase a cheap OBD2 port device (like the ones that claim to add 20 HP and double your fuel mileage ). Remove the simple circuit inside and just use the connector and case.

I recommend an in-line fuse between the tap point and the hotspot device.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

There are actually a lot more OBD2 port connection options than I had realized. Some examples:

YEP! I even found the PERFECT cable for me. It plugs right into the OBD2 and has USB-C on the other end. PERFECT. AND, it drops down to 5 volts - just what I need.

I was thinking a cell phone power bank would last 9hrs. Something else I just thought about. If you're hooking up something for power to the OBD2 port. It may be a good idea to make sure it's fused.
