I use Toyota filters for this car, about $9 including the washer from a local Lexus dealer The filter isn't very large though..

Changing full synthetic at 5k, from everything I have read and heard this seems to be enough. Oil at 4.5k still isn't as black on the stick as dino.

i'd never change my oil at a lexus dealer. it's like 80 bucks to change the oil here at the lexus dealer. it's so simple.. just unscrew the oil pan nut drain... screw back on, change filter (u just unscrew it) put new one and pour in oil. how easy is that?

Some of us do it ourselves (probably the more fanatical ones ) and others go to lube shops with own filter and/or oil. It's not at all difficult, but the first time you do it, it will take a little more time to get familiar with where everything is. I think that the placement of the drain plug and oil filter may vary slightly among models, but probably the most time consuming part of the whole endeavor is removing the underbody shield to get at the oil filter.

Incidentally, the local Lexus here charges on $35 for a change, including filter.

mrshabo, it isn't that easy on the RX. What car do you have (if you put in a signature everyone can see)?

RX filter is buried and drips oil on chassis - frankly it's a mess. But if I do it mysef I know the synth. really gets in.

For $35 on an RX, I wouldn't even consider doing it myself for the hassle, plus I rarely get a car back from Lexus with any drips, they must have the knack.

I think it is M1-102. If you go to Autozone, etc. they can look it up for you to make sure

Fram has a really nice oil filter now "Fram X2 series" These cost roughly 8 bucks each and look to be as high quality as mobil1s and the K&Ns are. I guess any filter that costs 8-9 bucks is generally higher quality and cant go wrong.

parula i have a sc300, i would post a pic but i don't like the way my car looks with those monster truck gaps i have after i put on my 19's lol. The reason i do mine is because the dealers always drive off and have some "fun" with my car. The dealers have kids that valet your car when you enter and whenever you leave they take it for a spin. I know it happened to me a few times. They all give me some bs excuse like "oh we didn't have space". They seem to love the 5 speed since they don't get to drive many of those.

mrshabo, yea that's always a problem. I'd keep mine away from them too!!

When I do let anyone other than a dealer change mine I go to a drive through QuickLube-type place so I can SEE the action! After a couple self-changes on this RX I just get to the point I have to let someone else do it for a break . ..
