Default Oil Filter to use?

I been using a Toyota Oil Filter: 90915-20004 from Carlson Toyota. I bought tons of them.. until I realized last week, i ran out fo stock... I try to purchased from my local dealer and non of them has 90915-20004. Its been replace by some other part number which I am not comfort of buying.

Can anyone offer any insight and what oil filter they are using?

I have been using Fram and Pulolator filters beside OEM filters.

Shinchan, I use the same filter for my 90 LS (90915-20004). I don't know anything about it being replaced...in fact, I was just at the dealership 1 week ago and bought one. I recommend doing a quick search for 'filter' on CL and you'll find that people overwhelmingly recommend staying with this filter.

Check out this link to read more about the above filter:

K&N oil filters have done really fine by me, much better than my old Toyota OEMs.

I am going to try the K&N filter next. I really like the connector for a socket wrench, helps in R&R. It can be hard to angle an oil filter wrench on the filter of the 1MZFE engine, not to mention kinda heated in there too, given its location.

The discussion of oil filters came up in a variety of other Toyota forums I've frequented. A popular after-market has been Purolator and no one has denied a factory Toyota filter. There has been much discussion/rumors about flow characteristics of Fram and it has me doubtful. A mechanic on another Toyota forum had relayed drops in oil pressure of 2-4 PSI at idle and higher as RPM increased. Not wanting to chance it with the LS, I'm going to stick with factory filters.

I dunno what members here have been using on their 200K+ mile Lexi...?

You may never notice a difference until you are forced to rebuild your engine 100K miles sooner than another person who used a quality oil filter throughout the life of the vehicle. The Mobil 1 oil filter is one of the best you can buy, and will run you around 10 bucks. The cheap filters will run you 2 or 3 bucks. Is it really worth saving yourself 8 bucks every 4 months? For me, 8 bucks buys a lot of piece of mind.

Switch to synthetic oil, and use a good quality filter, and you will be able to go at least twice the amount of miles between changes. Your engine will thank you, and you'll spend more time driving, and less time under your vehicle doing oil changes every 2K miles.
