Sweaky Doors

I been noticing that my doors have been sweaking lately, how do I get rid of the squeak>?

couple of fixes are possible.

quick one, use Armor All. It is probably the only good use for the stuff. Armor All will not wash off or dissolve like WD40. WD40 is a solvent not a lubricant. Armor All will coat the metal pieces and quiet the squeak temporarily. It works great on screen doors too.

long term cure....
1. spray some gunk cleaner or carb cleaner in the hinges to get out any dirty grease and grime. wipe up any drips and allow to evaporate. put a towel under the hinges to catch any overspray or run off. Not great to get in on the painted surfaces.
2. get some white lithium grease (you can find it in a squirt can) or some other type of spray lubricant. TriFlo is another brand (it is spray teflon). Most auto stores and hardware stores will have it. The lithium grease is better. Spray it into the hinges really well, but don't overdo it. Any that runs off is a waste.

Work the door(s) back and forth a few times. Come back and shoot them again in a few days and that should set you for a while.

Squeaking door fix

I used to have the same problem. Two solutions, first is to make sure the weatherstripping is fully seated against the chassis of the car, or door will squeak when start to open or when almost closed. When I replaced the driver's door weatherstripping, I did not press hard enough to push the weatherstripping aginst the car near the windshield area to seat it in the groove. The other solution one involves greasing the middle hinge, it has a rubber flap/skirt that glides along a black plastic bar. You need to coat the backside of the skirt with oil. You have to coat the topside skirt and the bottom side skirt. You can tryusing a Q-tip saturated in oil. I have a smaller syringe/needle to easily go under the flap. I hope this helps.

thanks alot fellas, ...I would have never thought of using amorall. Once I lubricated all parts...no more sweaks..thanks

just remember to NEVER use things like wd 40, it hurts more than it helps. armor all is good, black magic is much better. (thicker and doesnt wash away)
