Default Need advice on 30K service

Hi All

I am a new member of this forum.

I am a first time Lexus owner and need your advice. I recently got a 99 RX300 AWD with 28K miles on it. This was a lease return and I have a feeling that the original lessor did not service it (only oil change).

What kind of service should be done at this time and what will I have to pay for it?

Also, what octane of gas is OK to use?

I average 16 MPG with an average speed of 20 MPH (I drive 90% in a city) using 93 octane gas. Is it a good gas economy?

If someone here is from NY, who is the best dealer?

Appreciate your responses.

Check out this link.

http://applications.edmunds.com/main...s&tid=edmunds.

previously posted on this board and will give you everything you ever wanted to know about the RX service schedule.

I am in NJ and dont do much city driving. Avg above 22 mpg mixed suburb/highway driving.

I use Ray Catena in Oakhurst NJ but dont have much experience in thier service Dept other than that they are friendly, easy to get an appt and always have a Lexus Loaner available. Tomorrow my 2002 is going in for the 5,000 mile service, so not sure how all the major stuff works out there.

I am sure there are other club members in NY that can give you some feedback on the manhattan dealerships if you are in NYC.

Normally I would say 16mpg sounds low but if you are driving in Manhattan, it is probably as much as you can expect.

Default 30k

16mpg sounds good for avg 20mph 90% city. Continue using 87octane

I paid $250 for my 30k at a Lexus dealer [do a search for the post for more details]

There are constantly threads about what maint to do at what time, as stated, a couple of searches and a visit to the RX forum will help you.

My first instinct would be to pay the dealer the price for what they have listed. I know it goes against all that has been said in this forum, but hear me out. If you knew all the miles on the vehicle then I would say pick and choose what sevices you feel you really need. However, you picked up this RX with 28k on it and you really don't know what those 28k consisted of. Unless you have the maintenance records for the vehicle then you really don't know what was done and when it was done.

Maybe for your first service you might consider starting off on a fresh foot with the RX and the Lexus service department of your choice. Call a few Toyota dealers to see if they are a Lexus certified service center. They may be able to offer a better price.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Get the service records pulled at any Lexus dealership (the Lexus dealerships are linked) .... bye the way, this should have been done before buying the RX.
