Default trac light/check engine light/o2 sensors

I have a 93 ls400 with 175k. My trac light and check engine light have been on simultaneously for a while, car is running a little rough now and once in a while the idle is low. I heard this is caused by faulty oxygen sensors. No record of the sensors being replaced previously by prior owner. Has anyone actually replaced the sensors to solve this problem?

There's so many sensors in the engine that will turn on the check engine light. It could be anything or if it the O2 sensor then you'll need to know which one bad. Two main O2 and two sub O2. Take it to the shop and find out what the engine code or trac code is.

yea at about 175k your o2's are due for failure, you should check your codes to see which one of your four 02's is going bad, more than likely it will be the sub 02's, they tend to go bad sooner than your main heated 02's. If one 02 is bad they usually all start to fail.

check your code to be sure, and change the part.

PS your car will run a lil rougher, and your transmission will shift differently also.

AND POOR ACCELERATION AS WELL?

I FEEL A LIGHT JERK EVERYTIME THE CAR SHIFTS... IS THAT AN EFFECT OF A BAD O2 SENSOR AS WELL?

Funny you mention that, i'm also getting sluggish acceleration and slightly notchier shifts. Haven't replaced the sensors yet - pain in the neck to get the car in during the work week. Will post after I get it done though.

Default yep

anytime your check engine light turns on, your car goes into something like a "safe" mode to save the car from major damage, so your shifts, acceleration, fuel economy tend to take a crap. but if your experiencing any of this and your "check engine" is not on then its a different problem.

you can find out the code and if you have the voltmeters, you can check if your right or left side is failing. I changed mine and I dont have any more sluggish acceleration.

finally got the car into the shop. Changed all four O2 sensors, new motor mounts and trans mount, new rear shocks, and new rotors and pads all around. BIG DIFFERENCE. New o2 sensors got rid of the check engine light and the TRAC light, and the engine runs way better than it did before. Shifts smoother too.

I had my O2 sensors changed for my 60K checkup. Here in Mexico City, with all the dust and pollution, my O2 sensors go haywire(happens on other cars). Toyota could not adjust them enough down here, but Lexus was happy to do it.

No Lexus dealers here in Mexico. I had to take my car back to Lexus of San Antonio for the 60K checkup. Glad you asked the question. Here is the information I know regarding Lexuses in Mexico.

1. No dealers, yet. By law, when Lexuses are sold (2004, following full NAFTA implementation), they must be sold at Toyota dealers. Something to do with content laws, otherwise, you would have to have a Lexus plant in Mexico. Same reason Infinitis are sold at Nissan dealers here (just the J30 and Q45).

2. According to my friends at the Banjercito(this is where you must register your car if you venture beyond 12 miles into Mexico), there are 30 Lexuses registered to foreigners in Mexico, including diplomats. I know of at least two diplomats with right-hand drive 1998 Toyota Harriers. A whole load of Lexuses are registered in San Miguel de Allende, which has about 3,000 Americans living there.

3. You can find Lexus in in the Caribbean + Brazil, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama.

4. When Lexus does come to Mexico, they will likely include the IS 200/300, ES300 and LS430(maybe). There is talk of bringing the RX330 due to its Canadian/US content, but that is hearsay. Expect the prices to be more than $7,000 over U.S. prices. Take a look at car prices in Mexico now, http://mx.autos.yahoo.com/newcarspecs/index.html?com=0

5. Right now Toyota Mexico just sells the Camry, Corolla, Matrix and 4 Runner. This year it will sell the Hilux(type of small pickup)Rav 4, Sienna, and Yaris(close to the Echo).

6. There are currently Toyota dealers in Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey with 9 more dealerships expected this year.

7. I get plent of double-looks with the car on the street, and my friends with Lexuses here in Mexico City say the same thing. In fact, the most often asked question at the Toyota dealer is, "When are you bringing Lexus?"

8. Mexicans just do not understand the concept of quality quite yet. When I show them Consumer Reports they literally take a dump in their pants. Glad I have my Lexus.
