2000 LS400 battery replacement
Can I simply change the battery, or, do I need to plug in one of the 9v adaptors into the cigarette plug so I don't end up with a on board computer defalt? Please help. Thanks

Welcome to the Club.
Not sure what you mean about onboard computer default, there's nothing absolutely disastrous that will happen. Anytime you change the battery, the settings are going to be erased (radio, seats, etc.)
Now, the car's computer (and I am going to say this carefully) gets reset. That doesn't mean you have to do anything special or panic. Just take out the old battery, put in the new battery.
What the vehicle's computer will do is just relearn your driving patterns (I do this a lot with modifications I do with my own Lexus). I have found that between 15 to 30 minutes of driving time (about a 50/50 mix of highway city and getting above 55 mph at least once), gets the vehicle about back to where it should be, though it may take about 100 miles more or so in terms of getting to about where it should be on miles per gallon.
To put it bluntly, just put in the new battery and just drive normally as you would.

The reason why people use those 9v battery stuff is to retain their seat memory, radio settings, and other random things. Sometimes radios have a security that makes you re-enter the code when you put in a new battery. The battery you plug into the cigarette lighter should have enough juice to retain memory while you swap in your car battery.
