Default engine light 1996 ES 300

A couple of years ago the engine light came on and I took it to the Lexus service. They said it was the gas cap and if it ever happens again, get a new cap, put it on, disconnect the battery and should be good to go. Plus, save a bundle of money. It happened again, and I did what they said. That lasted about a month, happened again, took off old cap, put back on, disconnected battery and engine light off for about 3 days. Back on. Has this happened to anyone else??

Yah, there are hundreds of reasons that light can come on... my guess is that it is not related to the original reason it came on a couple of years ago...

go get the codes pulled (or buy a code reader) and let us know what the codes are and we can give some advice from there...

What he mitsuguy said.. you need to find out what code you have, then proceed to diagnosis.
