Default Lexus dealer refusing to service your car

I have 2002 ls430 with over 305,000 miles. I brought my car to have the valve cover gasket replaced and the service manager refused to work on my car. I was shocked!! Can the dealer refuse to work on a car?

Does not seem out of the ordinary, but dealers don't usually work on cars that are at the 10 year point, they might not have any parts for it in the parts department, ask them if they have the parts, years ago when I worked in Toyota the service department directed all the older cars to the shop across the street.

Ask the dealer who they send their customers to with older cars, or find a Lexus dealer who will work on your car

Wow, i've never actually heard of a dealership refusing to work on a car because of its age or mileage. 305K miles is a lot of mileage (and props on that!!) but still, it shouldn't be grounds for denial of repairs. Not unless your LS is falling apart and they are afraid moving it would damage it...lol

Just find somewhere else i guess, you probably don't want your car being worked on there anyways!

I used to take my Honda Prelude to the Honda dealer for oil changes and before i sold it, it was nearly 13 years old with 160k i believe, never had any issues at the dealer.

I bet if you reported it to a local news agency they would change their policy.

Yes, they can and welcome to CL. I'm glad you find us just to start a thread. The dealer can refuse to deal with certain type of customer/car. Please give us more details and how did you got kicked out from that dealer...lol. This must be really bad for a service manager at Lexus dealership refuse to work on your car because he have to explain the whole thing to the Lexus HQ and Lexus rep.

I've seen quiet a few customers got kicked out or walked out with a police before. Those so call customers are a real piece of work for sure.

i've seen only one car come to the dealership i work at, and the service director refused to work on it due to it being a hack and half of a car.....car(is300) came in as a tow with a turbo setup, does not run. the engine harness and ecu was all hacked up. but my service director pretty much said, he'll refuse anyone if they constantly come in and cause a problem and expect to pay nothing for the service.

Wow, ive worked for Lexus for over 10 years.. never have we refused to work on a car for no good reason. Even the most run down, beat up cars, we'll still work on them.. why wouldnt we? Money is money, cars are cars. We've worked on everything from 90 LS's and SC's on 26's smelling like weed to twin-turbo ISF's...

I hear that. Mine just wouldnt do it partly since i didnt buy it from them and said may not have tools to work on it. I guess she might have meant parts. But probably don't want any hassles from customers with little money.

usually, The dealer may refuse if they believe there will be more damage to the car by beginning to work on the vehicle than if they leave it alone.. and or if you will end up having to pay for MORE items to be replaced while they are in doing that work, leaving you with such a huge bill that you will not want or be able to afford the repairs.. and that usually leaves customers to *****ing about their car was atelast drivable before it went in and now its not, etc etc etc..

IE. my old daily driver has 348k on it, needs only a timing cover.. but while im at it, theres probably a heck of alot of items that once they come out.. should or need to be replaced and shouldnt be reused.. leaving a very espensive bill for a car not worth more than a tank of gas..
