Default wheel bearings

I already post this thread before, I知 not really sure if anyone was following it but here is the problem that I知 experiencing:

I usually experience this problem when I go 40 mph or more. Whenever I turn my steering wheel on the right I hear noises coming out from somewhere on the front, when I turn my steering wheel on the left all noises are disappearing and car drives very quite just like it suppose to.

So I took my car to the Lexus dealership and I was waiting for almost for half an hour just for technician to take a look at my car but it was all worth it. Dealership offered me to do a check up for my car but I told them that they would not find any problems by just doing a check up and I actually need someone to ride in the car to experience this problem. So finally there is a guy gets into my car on passenger seats and I知 taking my car to the nearest highway and we go somewhere around 50-60mph and he tells me that this is a wheel bearings that needs to be replaced he even says that this is left side, although I知 certain that this is a right side that makes those noises but anyway I take my car to another place (a non Lexus) so they lift my car up and guy check my front wheels and he says that my right side bearing needs to be changed too.

So I decide to change both sides just to be certain, now my question is must I get part from Lexus dealership only or can I get an after market parts? At the dealership each wheel bearing cost $154 my buddy gave me a little hook up so I知 getting then for $127 plus labor of course, I forgot to ask how long will it take to do labor work but I asked this question at another place and they told me that they値l charge me $50 per bearing so it痴 $100 in total just for the parts and plus they値l charge me $200 for labor, I went to third place they told me that they値l charge me $160 per each side, I assume it will cost me a whole lot more if I do it at the dealership, which understandable, but do I really have to get a Toyota parts or I can get some other brand? Is there any performance part I might buy instead or do those bearing even have anything to do with performance? Or is it just safe to get after market part?

Thanks in advance

just out of curiocity what year is your car? and how many miles do you have on it?

also you didn't really answer my question where i asked wiether its fine or not fine to use after market bearings instead of lexus/toyota brand name ones.. and wither its okay to have someone else to put those on other then dealership..

also i find out from local mechanics that it will run into these figures to me:

$50-$60 (after market) bearings
$100 labor (per side)

or

$130-$150 lexus/toyota bearings
$??? labor (lexus dealership) (do you know how much dealership cost on this?)

i forgot to ask them.. but i'll call them and find out on monday

and on my last note i'm surprised that you just change on one side.. although if you have *exactly* same problem changing on right side would resolve this issue.. but even so .. i belive this is like a tires.. you change them in pairs.. you dont change just one.. you *must* change tire on both sides when you need to replace one tire..

Default *****CORRECTION*****

Hey A1,

Sorry about that....I spoke to my mechanic and when he first did it, it was under a warranty that I had gotten from him so that's why it was so cheap!!! He said it is $180...and he only uses Genuine Toyota parts....Aftermarket parts should never really be used on a Lexus, at least I won"t.

My Car is a '98 GS 300 w/72,520 miles...I should have just changed both, don't know why I didn't but hey I gotta changed now so...it will be done!

Those prices are a little high but then again, some things are more expensive than others. Just make sure that they warranty everything. With the dealer....in my opinion...I would only take my car there for things that I know my mechanic can't do. I really put all faith in my mechanic. I don't know about you, but I've had my mechanic for 4 years and he's like family already.

Hope this helps!

Danny

also are you having exactly same problem as i do? or its something like it? or similiar? can you describe it?

thanks

Question '94 GS300

I've researched a lot of the threads here and other sites, but I can't determine if the front or rear bearings are sealed on a '94 GS300. Does anyone know, or know places to reserch this? I'm a new owner and not familiar with the resources out there.

Thanks,

Jon
