!!! Need help fast gs 400 making knocking sound did run perfect ???????????? ??
HI i need help fast my wifes 99 gs 400 is acting up she went to crank it yesterday and said it wouldnt start. So i tried turning the engine over and it sounded slow so i cut it off and thought the timing belt might have broke. So i pulled the cover and checked the belt and it looked good and was tight and couldent see any teeth missing. I did notice when i was turning the crank with the ratchet it turned fairly easy like low compression and then after putting the cover back on i tried cranking it and it fired up and idled a little ruff for a few seconds then smoothed out and then i gave it a little throttle about to twelve hundred rpm's and heard a knocking sound sorta like a lifter and then cut it off. I am stumped the car has always been kept serviced every 3k and never gave a minutes problem and wanna know if anybody else has had a simular problem and can give me some advice before i have to start shelling money out. Thanks in advance also car has 108k miles on it

Check the oil on it ...... Maybe low.... I would change it asap and see if there is any metal etc.... and lifters tap dont knock any knocks are usually lower end bearings , pistons etc. Hope you are just hearing things.

Thanks guys for all the help. Took it to the dealer yesterday and he called me this morning and it was the throttle plate carboned up and stayed closed and was dumping fuel in the cylinders and was the lifters ticking so it was a great day no damage and the timming belt had not jumped so i had them go ahead and do the timming belt water pump tensionor's and seals and change the oil. Thanks again everybody great website.
