Car is a 1998 LS 400. AC blows hot air (even when off!) EXCEPT when set to MAX COLD! I know this has been posted previously, but I have yet to see a justification or answer.

My mechanic (non-dealer) is also confused.

Please help.

See below. Print this out and take it to your mechanic. If he has Alldata, Shopkey/Mitchell On Demand, etc he should be able to find this stuff on his own. If he does not make him give you a discount for doing the research for him.

 

Check your room temp. sensor. This sensor is located on lower left dash cover(the cover below the steering column). If somebody work in that area before may left the sensor unplug. The sensor is right under the ignition key, you will see a very small vent in that area. If you take that lower dash cover make sure it's plugged in both sensor wire harness and the little yellow hose.
