Default 94 sc engine cuts off

I have a beautiful 94 sc400 with 76000 miles on it . It is a 2 owner car( adult drivers ) always maintained . The problem is it will cut off while driving or at a stop, everything shuts off including interior lights .My mechanic thought it was the starter , we replaced it , the car still is cutting off ! Has anyone else had this happen ? Is it electrical? a chip?, i have know idea other than this the car is in perfect shape! Thanks for any ideas or suggestions m moore jacksonville fla

starter would have been the last item on my check list ... since you have no starting problems.

When it shuts off, do any of the instrument warning lights come on? From your post it seems your car suffers from electrical outage --> no ignition --> car dead.

I would check the fuses, wires comming into the fuse boxes etc.

Also check the car history ... flooding etc in the past etc. Give previous owners a call to see narrow down to an instance since the problem cropped up.

Intermittant problems are hard to catch and fix. imho I dont have too much trust in your mechanic, since you did not have starting problems

Default worth a try.....

Hopefully it is as simple as a faulty battery ground strap.

Might not be, though, but be sure to check it, to eliminate that possibility.

It is USUALLY the fuel pump ECU or fuel filter on the Sc's.

If this is the case, it tends to sputter around 200-300 rpms right before it shuts off, but this is certainly a possibility.

maybe see if the mechanic can test the alternator as well. if it's not charging your battery properly you could be losing power when your driving or at a stop.
