Has the coolant been serviced and changed every 30,000 miles?
It could chemically breakdown and cause corrosion to the head gaskets or intake manifold gasket. This will allow coolant to weep into the combustion chambers. Coolant usually burns white.
White smoke on start-up is one of the signs of a failure of the air control valve in the power steering pump. This problem is very common on the early and mid-90's LS models.
Watch the power steering fluid level very closely. If it's dropping, the fluid may be leaking past the valve and being drawn into the intake manifold.
The replacement valves are relatively cheap ($80.00), and the replacement procedure is fairly simple.
its white.it is an ls 400 94 with 150,xxx miles on it.iam running synthic.
You may need to switch back to regular oil because synthetic oil may be too thin for a 12 years old car. You may have a couple of valve stem seals that worn out and caused the oil to leaks down from the cylinger head into the combustion chamber( overnigth). Please check your engine oil regularly. Worn out valve stem seals can cause a blue smoke started up due to oil leaking into the engine cylinders.
On the side note: check your power steering fluid as well. I've seen a lot of the 1st gen LS with vacuum switching valve on the side of power steering pump leaking internally. If you look at the power steering pump, you will see 2 vacuum hoses attached to the PS pump via VSV( vacuum switching valve) and those vacuum hoses are connected directly onto the intake manifold. The check valve inside the VSV may get stuck oponed and caused the PS fluid to leaks into the combustion cambers( cylinders).
