Default Problem starting due to gas being low?

This morning I was having problems starting the GS up. It would crank but would not turn over. I tried cranking a few more times and it started but the engine started sputtering so I blipped the throttle and the engine immediately stalled. My gas level was low (last mark before empty) but not where the low gas warning came on. I tried cranking a few more times and it started again but I left it going for about 20 seconds and it seemed fine after.

I pumped more gas on the way and it started up just fine after filling up. Could this just be due to the gas being a little low? It has never done this before.
