just got my 95 Sc 400 from a older person and the car has been sitting for a long while got it in jan05 and never thought about the air conditioning well turned it on the other day the air compressor comes on fan works ect but the air never really get cold seems to be cool on low fan but not to the point where it would do anything on a nice hot summer day I'm in Virginia Beach and it really hasn't got hot yet since the compressor is coming on I was thinking it has to have some freon 134 in it is there anything else I can check or do before I take to pep boys to get a AC check! car set in garage for about a year started occasionally but not moved ?

The car does use R-134a, i would have a AC shop check it out. NEVER use those R-134a DIY refills at the auto parts store - they do more harm than good.

 

Why do you say that? the guys at the shop use the same exact bottles.

 

Same problem on a ES300, cool but not cool enough on a really hot day.
Turns out a check valve was working off and on. It took the shop the good part of a day checking it over and over until it malfunctioned for them. A $39.00 part..$240 labor, Working good now.

When you say Check Valve do you mean expansion Valve if so does anybody know where it is on a 1995 Sc 400

 

AC - Expansion Valve Replace-$375

 

Not sure of the slang used to describe the part. The part number was SCS208293 Labeled on the invoice as.."Txv 2000-93 Toyota Blk". Not sure if it was a OEM toyota part or aftermarket. It was an independent A/C shop that did the work.

not virgin refrigerant, R-134a is the SAME no matter what label, as DuPont and Ineos make R134a in the US. I'm talking about the all in one cans you charge in yourself with oil, system sealer, O-ring additive and cleaner. Those will ruin recovery machines and might ruin your system.
