Hi Guys...it's time to do my timing belt and water-pump, cam/crank seals etc. I got a quote from the Toyota dealer at about $300 and a private mechanic for about $150. I'm wondering whether I have to be careful installing the timing belt...is it something "any" mechanic can take care off or is it a task preferably left to the dealer.
I've done stuff before like the struts etc which are straightforward and handled by any local mechanic just as well s the dealer.
Any advice? I'd really appreciate it...I'm looking forward to making the decision by today hopefully since I already picked up the parts at the toyota counter last night.
Since its not an interferance engine, there really isnt anything to screw up... if it gets put together a tooth off, it will just run rough, and it'll have to be torn down and the belt repositioned. Its not really a difficult job. Either way, as long as you have someone taking responsibility for their work, you should be fine.
Thanks guys. I'm going to go talk to the mechanic and trust my gut instinct on this. If I feel that I can trust him, I'll leave my car there tomorrow. If not, I'll go hassle my local friendly toyota tech. to see if he can give me a discount on the total
Thank you once again for all the advice. I really appreciate it.
