Exclamation problem (clicking noises from the drivers side wheel)

I have a 99 es300 and about 2 weeks ago it began making clicking noises from the drivers side wheel. This noise is loudest and most prominent when I am at a full stop and turn either left or right. I don't know wheather it is a constant velocity joint or what. I also live in upstate new york and the fact that it has been snowing a lot and our roads have been loaded with salt may probably has something to do with it.

I just want to know what other people think this may be before I take it into a dealership.
thanks

Jack up your car or look underneath the front wheels. There will be a rubber boot behind each wheel where the CV joint is. If one of them is torn, and salt got into the CV joint, that is your problem. THose boots hold grease in there that protect the joints.

If you replace the CV boot and repack with grease you can keep the problem from getting worse, but you will have to replace the CV joint to make the noise go away.

The noise you describe does sound like a CV joint noise. And once they've started to make noise like that, there is no turning back, you just have to replace them. Putting new boots on would be a band-aid at that point, and not solve your noise. It would be a waste to put new boots on. Get the car up in the air, so you can check it out and go from there.

Did you go look at the CV boots? It should be obvious if there is a tear.
