Default axle bearing

The otherday my rear driverside wheel started to squeak real bad, like a very faint metal grinding that just grew louder as i drove. I took the wheel off and checked the plate behind the rotor to make sure nothing was in there or the rotor didnt get bent, but everything was fine, I jiggled the rotor and it slightly moved side to side and made that terrible squeaking noise. I was told it could be the axle bearing, anyone know if this is an easy fix? Is this something i should attempt to do my self or should i take it to a shop? A local Lexus dealership wanted 200 for the parts, and almost 400 for the labor.

Make sure it not your brake pads worn out to the metal. If the wheel bearing goes bad you may need to take it to the shop, because a lot of tools, hydrualic press and a lot of labor involved.

Yeah, unless you're trained on how to do it, and have the proper tools, i wouldnt attempt it yourself in the driveway. The labor you were quoted sounds about right, as its about 4 hours worth of labor or so.
