Default Question about the K and N Air filter.

Can i use anything else to re-oil it aside of Kand N oil? I cleaned mine and ended up not being able to find my oil. The stores are closed currently and i would like to drive it, but not without oiling it somehow.

You must re-oil your K & N air filter with K & N oil & NOTHING else. You might want to buy a paper filter as a back up in case something like this happens again.

That sounds like something K&N would say.

Before there even was a K&N, there were foam filters that could be re-oiled with any light machine oil. So in a pinch something like 3-in-1 would work. I even used motor oil once and it worked fine, but that was because I could wring the excess oil out of the foam- you can't do that with a K&N.

Just like with K&N oil, it's better to use too little than too much, but I'm sure you already know that, B!

Well that what they do say! I wouldn't suggest anything else that might possibly damage another members car now would I? If you have done it with light machine oil, great! but I haven't so that why I said to use only K & N filter oil. I always excercise on the side of caution & there is nothing as uncommon as common sense!

Default In regard to our cars, that is....

So, using your logic, we should only be doing the things you do, and if you have not done something, we shouldn't, either?

This is all a moot point by now- the stores are now open so Brian can buy whatever he wants.

True, i do have the kit now. I actually took the bimmer to get a fram filter while i posted this because i really would have rather had my K&N in the vehicle. Unfortunately walmart carries the fram, but not the K&N fluid, so i knew ahead of time that i was only going to be able to leave with the stock filter until the morning came.

no I'm not saying everyone should do as I do.....he was in a bind at the time & wanted suggestions, that was the best one(s) I could come up with.........all I was saying that personally I wouldn't use anything other than the K & N oil if I was in the same situation......so I wasen't about to suggest something esle I didn't have knowledge about for risking damage to his car. that's all.....
