Default Gas Smell in Garage.....

Hey, just wondering if anyone knows why my '95 SC400 would be venting gas vapor after it's stopped. I thought it was supposed to depressurize as it went or something. The new loaners never do this. Could it be something just plugged up?
If I pop my gas cap open you can hear it woosh out.

Thanks,

Jason

Jason, the vapors are supposed to woosh out when you remove the gas cap, the gas tank has a seal and there's pressure involved, so the wooshing is natural. First be sure it's the car and not coming form some other source in the garage. I had a similiar incident waaaay back in the day and was lmao when I found out what I was smelling was an old oil rag that was left in my car. Be careful though, if your car truly is emitting that level of gasoline vapors then you need to have it looked at asap by someone who knows what they're doing...

Well it's definitely coming from the gas cap area. After I park the car when I get home, you can hear a very faint sssss sound. It appears to be venting from the cap, although it's very very slow. Over a bit of time though, I can walk out to the garage & smell the gas. There isn't much in the garage other than some tools or the car & I don't smell it whenever the car isn't there, or if I've vented the car & let the garage air out for a few.

Perhaps it's something dumb like the gas cap?

I fixed that venting hose a while back, as mine was dangling loose & the fumes were venting into the trunk then to the cabin. Now it's just into the garage.

Thanks!

Default get a new cap.

Inspect your current gas cap and see if it looks damaged anywhere around where it seals. If you suspect it may be damaged replace it asap, a cheap and quick fix if that's your problem. Get it from the dealer to ensure it seals properly, it's like $20. If that's a bit too much then get one from a chain stores like Kragen or PepBoys.
