Usually, I just take my car in for a coolant change, but this time I'm looking at changing my coolant/antifreeze in my car. In the past, I was told to not worry about the used coolant and let it drain into the sewer system. Nonetheless, I was curious to see what options I had for disposal of the used coolant: 1) drain it down the sewer system, 2) collect it and take it to a collection center, much like you do with used oil.
It really depends on the area. In general, you should not dump it in the sewer. Most sewer effluent is not treated. In large metro areas, all sanitary effluent is treated, so it is OK to dump it in the toilet. The most important thing is to not leave it exposed and unattended in a way that pets can find it and drink from it.
