Tailgate opens automatically, but won't close automatically.
I have a 2023 LX600. The other day I noticed the tailgate will open using the key fob and also by pressing the tailgate button to the left of the steering wheel, but will not close using those buttons and the button on the tailgate it's self beeps two times but does not close. I have to manually close the tailgate. Anyone having or had this problem? Thanks.
The pinch sensor is in the black weatherstrip around the edge of the hatch (back door in Lexus-speak).
They are known to overreact and think there is an obstacle which causes the chime and failure to close.
See your dealer for the fix.
Weirdest thing is, I tried opening and closing the tailgate early in the morning before the sun was up and it worked properly. I tried it when the sun was out and the tailgate did not want to close automatically.

Yes, dealership found is was the sensor on the left side that wasn't working. As Ballast said, the sensor was on back order, but they called me that week that it was in. Went to have it installed yesterday, but they were short staffed and I didn't feel like waiting all day so later this week I'll go back for them to install it. For the price of this truck, these things shouldn't happen. A new engine was installed this past January and now this stupid sensor. Thank God I am leasing this thing. I think my next vehicle is going to be an Electric Scooter. LOL

I took a video of it happening so I don’t get the “unable to replicate at this time BS” because it happens intermittently.

Great idea. When I took it to the dealer, they send you a video of the work they perform and the technician showed on his computer that the sensor on the left side wasn't working and the sensor on the right side was.

The pinch sensor on the left side was sticking, they ordered a new one and replaced it.
2024 LX600, purchased May 2024, currently 7,000 miles total.
A couple of weeks ago, rear hatch door started intermittently not wanting to close via dash or hatch button, or key fob. Problem seemed to be worst in the middle of the day, when ambient temp was higher and the truck had been exposed to direct sunlight. Everything worked fine either early in the morning or later in the day when the sun went down.
Got the classic “two beep” and no response from the hatch door when it didn’t want to go down, and had to push it down manually.
Made a warranty service appointment at Lexus of Annapolis. They connected to the computer and determined that both pinch sensors had stored codes, so they replaced BOTH SIDES under warranty. They happened to have the parts in stock, and the repair took about 90 minutes while I waited. No charge.
Service adviser knew right away the issue and asked very few questions. I had a video of the issue occurring (due to its intermittent nature) but he didn’t even want to see the video.
