Search the forum, many many threads regarding this. FWIW on my '18 it is through the Enform app. Still is hanky (shuts off when you access the vehicle). I can't answer to your model but there are A LOT of threads regarding this.

The "hanky" shut-off is to prevent anyone without a valid key from driving off in your truck...that's the way it's always been.

There are indeed a ton of threads about remote start...join up and log onto ih8mud.com. Go to the 200 Series tech forum and type "remote start" into the search bar at the upper right corner of the page, and click "search".

That's incorrect. Everyone else w/ remote start has the safety built-in. You can jump into any of my vehicles without a "valid key" and not be able to do anything (you can't even listen to the radio, let alone drive off). If you attempt to do anything without the key being sensed it shuts the car off. Toyota/Lexus is the only OEM remote start system I've ever owned with this dysfunctional setup. They need to catch up on this...their keyless entry/remote start systems are archaic and have been for many years. Their system is very similar to some aftermarket systems regarding the forced shut off and restart procedure.
