Default Is there a trick to programming the garage door opener?

I've tried at least 10 times, but cannot get it to work.

I'd say it's an outdated rolling code opener unit, but I was able to get my wife's 2008 Vette to work.

Any thoughts? My LX is a 2011.

I'm having this problem with a brand new Liftmaster myQ garage door opener. It requires buying a separate homelink repeater unit.

I just programmed two openers each on the two new Lexus cars. My garage door openers are LiftMaster brand from about 15 years ago. The trick I found was to hold down the remote button on a garage door opener for the garage door and press it continuously along with the home link transmitter in the Lexus for a very long time may be a minute two minutes until the lights started flashing green --- much longer than you would expect. As a second stage I had to press the learn button on the garage door opener unit and then get back to my Lexus and press and release the car opener button again once or twice and then it connected.

SeaHawg, that's nuts that a brand new unit would require additional hardware. bummer.

Thanks Dudley. I'll try holding it down a lot longer than it says. The manual says 2 seconds, release, hold for 2 more seconds, and it should work. It says sometimes it takes a third time.

I'l try just holding it down for a while and see what happens.

Usually first hold the clicker and pair to the homelink first, then go click the "red" pairing button on your garage door motor, then pair it again

Did you get it from your dealership? Usually they should have an IT person can help out

And yes, it won't be just 2 second LOL... its way longer, wait until the light flash and the final pair will activate the garage door

Try a fresh battery in the remote when teaching the HomeLink in the car.

Sounds odd but even when there is enough juice to trigger the garage
door 30 feet away it is sometimes insufficient to engage the car 3 inches away.

Another technique for some brands is to press and release the remote button
a couple times while holding the HL button in the car. Some seem to "time out"
and not transmit continuously.

Openers made by Liftmaster (and rebranded LM's) that have a yellow antenna
wire dangling down will need the repeater to step up the frequency that the
HL units send. If you bought an opener that has the battery back up for power
outages consider a UPS unit for the repeater. Hey it's a great way to surge
protect your garage entertainment devices anyway right?

My GDO'sI are both by Chamberlain (sp??) and date back to 1994.

All it took on both was to press the "learn" button on the opener, and then press and hold the respective button for the door on the Cruiser...Once it stopped blinking and went to solid (after maybe 5-10 seconds) that's all it took.
