Does anyone know how to read the Tire Pressure Sensor? As in -- how do I know which tires go to which measurement? If one is low or high, how will I know which tire it is?

 

I do not believe there is a specific order. The position of the tires change as rotation of the tires occurs, but the position on the gage stays the same for that tire. The spare is easy to see because the pressure does not vary much as the tires warm when driving.

I always keep the spare over inflated so you never have to guess. But the other 4 are all listed together. If the alarm goes off for low pressure, you should be able to look at your 4 tires and see the low one. This is what the system is designed to do.

 

On my Infiniti which was a but load cheaper and is more up to date which technology, it shows which tire, position on the vehicle and what it should be.

The same with the POS VW we had. It even showed the 89 PSI that the dealer forgot to PDI! Yep, a new set of banana peels ordered at 350 bucks a corner.

I've never understood the Toyota conservative mind.

 

Some technical info: there are 5 "slots" in the computer's memory for TPMS sensor IDs. When the dealer programs these in, they put them in some order and if they tell you what the order is, you'll know. But keep in mind that if you physically swap/rotate tires, the system has no way of knowing where each one went... so you'll have to deduce the new locations based on how the tires were rotated.

Also, if you want to check how they are currently ordered, just let some air out of one, note which one starts showing a lower pressure on the display, then pump it up again and repeat with the other 3 tires. Note that the pressures don't necessarily update in real-time on the display. It may take a couple of minutes.

 

Lexus too cheaper on this. When I switch between summer and winter tire - I have to go to dealer to reset each time. They charge every time.
10 years ago, I can easily reset TPMS on my Caddy. It also remember which tire for which - by changing tire pressure in sequence to learn which for which. When I found my LX570 can not do this - really surprised me. Come Lexus - don't be cheap on this！！！

 

Can't be that hard. Porsche has had TP for individual tires for years, and it doesn't change just because you move the tires around. Left front is LF and never changes.

 

A call to Toyota customer service got me to a techie who advised the order is lf, lr, rf, rr, spare from top to bottom on the display. The question involved my '13 Land Cruiser, but I wouldn't expect a difference v. an LX.

Second from top on mine ('11 570) is the spare.

 

I had one of the sensors valve stems break off. The caps were frozen on the valve stems. Apparently with all the chemicals used on the roads last winter the metal caps that were used corroded on the stems. So when they went to fill one of the tires up they twisted the stem right off. They paid for the fix, but now 2 other senors are bad. Dead battery? So that's what they claim. They worked before I went in and now they don't.

I don't use Lexus unless its for warranty work. Too expensive!!

I'm wondering if the repair shop hosed it up and knocked the sensors out of the system?

The extended warranty does not cover the sensor itself or the programming of it. Then they proceed to tell me the sensors have a 10 year life span. If it's a 2009 and it's 2015. That's not 10 years in my math!

Do these sensors have to be replaced by Lexus? Or can it simply take it to a tire shop?

 

I think an outside shop can handle that, it is just parts, they can always get them and labor is always cheaper than dealer; try tire shop or other repair shop first, if they said can't do it then you are out of luck
