LOL, so far I have not had an issue, but I imagine it is a matter of time before they staring issuing citations for not having visible plates and for blocking lights. Enforcement will follow an event highlighting police was not enforcing the rules......my guess.

I have been using the Kuat NV, it is built better than the Yakima and Thule trailer hitch racks. I haven't had any issues carrying a full suspension mountain bike with it.

I have the Yak fourtimer.

It's good because
-it's a "tray" type, so you can load pretty quick, especially the same bikes
-no major overhead lifting (if that's a concern)
-wheels stay on
-has a built in bottle opener ( I know I know )
-I trust the build quality and that those bikes won't be going anywhere
-fine for my "beater" or regular mtb, and kids bikes / wife bike. My "good" Scott mtb and Marinoni will stay on the roof
-sks locks can be shared across all yak accessories

Mine has some defect where one of the sliders doesn't "stay" up. I'll have that fixed soon under warranty.

It's bad because
-once in a while a bike won't fit; usually smaller sizes, funny top tubes/frame designs
-the disadvantages of mounting behind the vehicle
-there is a frame "touch point" which keeps the bike secure, but will eventually probalby make a mark...no high end bikes should really be on this thing
-it has a fold down feature but I doubt that gets used, loaded with bikes it's heavy.
-limits back-access
-huge pain to store it when not in use. it's big, awkward, and heavy
-for some reason I think I read that this rack IS NOT allowed behind trailers or RV's - not "sturdy" enough to take the additional abuse that far back or something.

I am happy to report that Thule Apex Swing model clears both tailgate and hatch. It clears the tailgate by maybe 1/8th of an inch!
