I have had my LX windshield replaced with really bad aftermarket glass- wind noise is awful + wavy distortions. I want real a real Lexus windshield which is what I had before. Has anyone else succeeded in getting their insurance company to pay for the more expensive original glass?
Anyone else noticed the big differences in quality that I have?

 

I had my insurance pay for the original Lexus windshield before. But you have to have full coverage on your insurance. My insurance went with SafeLite which is a really good glass company.

 

I've had 3 OEM windshields replaced (in AZ, had glass coverage) and one Pilkington (in NM, no glass coverage available). The Pilkington is surprisingly good quality for the money...optically clear, no excessive wind noise, and only $250 (deductible) vs. $1700 (insurance won't cover OEM). I was initially suspicious how it could be so inexpensive, but figured I'd give it a shot. If it didn't work out, I'd pay for an OEM one myself. Low and behold 8 months later, I'm still very satisfied. The key is to find out who does your Lexus dealer windshield installations. My service manager told me who does theirs, and told me if I went straight to them, it would be a lot less $, plus they bill insurance directly. My LS has a PGW (Pittsburgh Glass Works) windshield. It looked to be the same thickness as the OEM windshield (about 1/4" thick). So far, no issues, just as quiet as OEM.
