Default Need help

I'm new to this LX forum but not to Lexus ES & RX. Need your help!! At this time I am in the process of negotiating for a 2007 LX with mileage in the upper 30's in great condition and is certified. My concern is that I am not really up to par on the LX. Anyone that can assist me with any items/comments that would help me would be greatly appreciated. Please advise on good and bad. What I can look out for, etc.
Many thanks,
Don

Don, i just purchased a 2007 LX470. I did several months of research on the vehicle and this particular vehicle has so many positives and overall a great vehicle. I have had the LX about a week now and am loving it, it is a smooth drive and such a great look to it. One negative I consistently heard was the gas mileage, but that is to be expected for the size of the LX.

The only frustrating thing about the LX that i have discovered is the Navi/Bluetooth technology.

1. Please check this link to see what functions your bluetooth phone will have in this vehicle. It has been difficult to get the iPhone to do everything i want in the LX with 2007 technology.

http://www.lexus.com/models/LS/acces...bluetooth.html

2. While the GX and other vehicles got the newer 5th Generation Navi in 2007, the LX in 2007 still had the 4th Gen. It wasn't until 2008 that the technology and graphics were upgraded.

3. I did have the iPod cable installed yesterday. Because Lexus doesn't make an iPod cable, an after market product has to be installed. THe sound is great, but there is limited capability and viewing options with the Navi screen. Such as...it will only have 6 playlists playing capability, the titles of the playlists to show, just numbers 1-6. However you do see name and artist information on the display.

Other than the tech frustration, the LX is better than anticipated. Another positive for you is that you are buying CERTIFIED from a dealer. And if you have any further concerns, you can purchase additional warranty coverage through LEXUS. With the LX under warranty ,everything is covered, expect for regular wear and tear.

For instance, In 2007 the LX and GX had problems with the driveshaft giving a "bumping" feel when the LX comes to a complete stop.

Hope this helps!

Brian

Bryan,
Thanks for your comments. I was advised that the 2007 LX had generation 5 nav installed. Thanks for the heads up on this. My 07 RX & ES ultra has gen 5 so I presumed that all '07s had the same and the salesperson verified it had gen 5. (I should have known better) Will follow up on Monday. I'm not much of a tech geek so the i-phone concern doesn't bother me. Will monitor for the bump. Once more thanks a million. I need all the help I can muster on this one.

Don, I can be certain that my 07 LX470 doesn't have the 5th generation. I am not sure if something was changed on the one you are looking to purchase. I have read a few articles about the navi and what i have read, the NAVI was updated with the new 08 body style. Here was one place i saw the information. If yours does have 5th generation, please let me know!

Bryan,
From my research tonight the 2007 LX definitely has gen 4 nav. The screen is smaller in gen 4 than gen 5 for one thing. Don't know yet what else is different but will find out before decision time. Do your know whether or not the disc can be updated in gen 4? Thanks again. Hope you have a great week.

Don, the disc can be updated. I just had the Dealership install the latest disc, 9. What color is the LX you are looking to purchase? Brian

Bryan,
Crystal White with beige interior with full records. I was also looking at a 2006 Sand dollar/beige but that one didn't work out after I did some background work. It wasn't for me. It's condition wasn't up to my standards. Still considering the "07.

Ben, this is the unit that i got for my '07.

http://www.usaspec.com/product.php?ProductID=34

This does work in conjunction with factory nav and Satellite Radio. I had this installed by a local car audio place, they ran the cable up through the center console, next to the CD Changer. Since i have a separate iPod for music, i have not yet tried my iPhone with it, but i can try and will let you know. The item description says it does work with iPhone.

Additionally, the unit has an additional R/L input. I had them run another 1/8" stereo jack into the center console, so if a friend has another MP3 unit, i can connect it.

hope that helps. If you need pics, let me know.

Ben;
Just wanted to let you know that my purchasing the '07 LX didn't work out. Almost but not consummated. Was suppose to close the deal tomorrow but some last minute negotiations became an impasse so no deal. Oh well, there is always a reason and another will probably come along. If not I will continue to drive my '07 RX350 with 17K miles.
Good luck and enjoy yours.
