Default LX470 front shocks

Has anyone replaced the front shocks on their LX 470? I had a problem with the accumulators and replaced them but I still seem to have a damping problem most noticeable going aroung curves. Seems the damping and/or rebound is not right. Thought that driving with the accumulators shot would have put more stress on the shock absorbers and they are worn out prematurely. It is a '98 w/ 85K. Can these be rebuilt or is it a direct dealer part? I don't want to go to the aftermarket and lose the damping settings that are adjustable. Thanks.

When you replace the accumulators, the FSM says to replace all 4.

What gave you the idea I didn't replace all four? Yes, all four were replaced when I serviced the suspension. I am wondering about the shocks since the accumulators don't work as a shock does. I think the problem is in the rebound part of the shock and wondered if anyone has had experience with the replacement or rebuilding. Thanks

They are theoretically re-buildable (in Japan, they sell practically every part of the car individually), but my guess is here, you have to replace the entire shock. You might try calling Slee at Sleeoffroad and see if they have any used AHC shocks lying around from people who have ditched their AHC systems for conventional shocks. Otherwise, if you get new shocks, the '06 landcruiser has AHC, shocks are the same as the LX's, I believe, but w/ lower price tag.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of the Toyota parts source.

Default 98 LX-470 too soft suspension?

IF you want to increase the suspension stiffness, adjust it, if that is still not enough, add a higher viscosity hydraulic oil to the system. The earleir AHC systems did not incorporate the 'anti-sway' electronic function in the AHC computer.
I suggest you carefully inspect the bushings and end links on the sway bar, AND also check tire pressures. Are you running OEM size tires etc. A LOT of vehicle sway can come for tires with soft sidewalls.
Go to 'activesuspensionsystems.com' and read all about the LX-470 AHC system and how to fix it.

I did have the front shocks replaced at a non-Lexus shop. I had them replaced with Toyota shocks. Cost for parts: $405.82. Total cost: 608.64.

Cool AHC Sensors

Can anyone tell me the location of the AHC sensors. After reading a few posts on this site it sounds like i would like to try and clean them first before I replace them. I'm having the same problem with the sensors and accumulators as others. I've already flushed and replaced the fluid with new OEM fluid.
