I own the 2019 LS 500. Is anyone experiencing an antifreeze smell coming from the engine compartment?
The dealer has checked it out and found no problems.
i noticed the smell immediately after delivery of the new car, however after 1000 miles of driving, I’m still getting that smell periodically when the car is at operating temperature.
I also noticed in the vehicle status menus and the Enform status that the car experience 2 harsh cornering, and harsh braking, as well as a pre-collision system (PCS) failure. These notification occurred before I took delivery of the car. (:<( System failures
I've smelled the same thing for a year, on and off. The dealer also says there's nothing wrong and that it's just coatings and sealants burning off. I don't buy it.
...I've taken mine in several times for coolant smell, especially when idling or trolling through a parking lot or a lot of tight turning manuevers during parking.

Thanks for responding... I’m not accepting that dismissal from the dealer. It’s not normal to smell antifreeze vapors during the normal operation of ANY car, unless there is some type of anomaly occurring.
I’m going to continue to pursue this problem until the dealer/Lexus can definitively identify where the antifreeze vapors are originating.

I’ll post any findings...
Might sound far fetched and not trying to scare you, but could it have been a fender bender prior to your ownership in the front of the car, causing coolant leak damage (and throwing collision error codes) ?

...A fender bender possibility hasn’t been ruled out by me... one of the reason I’ve posted the problem was to determine how common the problem exist or if I had an isolated case... which would support possible manufacturing mis-step and/or “fender-bender” damage occurring before I took delivery of the car. I pull a carfax, no accident reported... but it did indicate an extra delivery prep session occurred several weeks prior to my inquiry about the purchase of the car that I’m pursuing for clarification.

I heard dealers are not obligated to disclose damages or repairs before the car was first sold. And it would not show up on the carfax.

This was the first thing I thought was a fender bender as when they disconnect the stuff they may forget to clip them back in.
...two months later and I still periodically have a strong odor of Antifreeze (:<( and the dealer can still not locate the problem. It definitely radiating from the passenger side engine compartment.
Has any new comers experienced the problem or heard of findings or a solution/fix?
start by closely monitoring your coolant level in the overflow tank.
see if the reservoir is steaming/boiling or anything like that and look around the engine compartment with a flashlight for leaks once the engine and fully warmed up.

...Actually there is evidence of steaming/boiling IN THE antifreeze reservoir on the passenger side of the engine compartment...hummm
This reservoir is very hot and have condensation on the walls inside the top of the reservoir, the second reservoir on the driver’s side is still somewhat just barely warm...hummm.
is it possible this is a design flaw... antifreeze is steaming out of the seemly unremovable reservoir cap? Looks like the nipple at the top of the reservoir might be a vent... Before picture engine cold, looks low compared to driver side reservoir. Hard to see in photo, condensation forming at top inside the passenger side reservoir. Driver’s side reservoir looks normal.

Well I looked it up and it right from the get-go google said that one of the most common symptoms of a hot reservoir tank would be a blown head gasket...
In any case, a hot reservoir is absolutely 100% NOT normal and must be inspected immediately. Do not drive the car.
...I will be taking the car back to the dealer AGAIN! to have it investigated. I’ll post results...
have you tried an independent Lexus specialist shop? I realize you may have to shell out your own money for it, but it might get to the bottom of your issue. Sniffing antifreeze cannot be good for you or your passengers. If you do find something, I’d be asking your dealership for a reimbursement.
