I don't seem to have this issue. Mine opens up to 90 degrees and if you put the gas cap into the magnetic slot while you fill up, that keeps the door open.

My LS500's gas door stays open at about 90 degrees when I refuel. I think the dealership people are not honest when they say the gas door supposed to flop.
Mine does the same thing. It will not stay open. I have taken it to the dealership who ordered replacement door .... supposedly.... replaced the door (tightened bolt on the interior of the hinge arm) and for a short time there was a tighter hold on the door in the upright position. That did not last. It now just falls back to the closed position. If you place the cap on the door, then you must have the pump inserted to keep door open. It is annoying, and yet another quality oversight on the part of Lexus.
I love this car, but, all of these oversights that I have experienced make it hard to love
Finally had some gas today. There is no detent on mine to keep it open, but it stays open and does not close by itself, even when the gas cap is not in place.
Mine stopped opening this week. You need to either have a friend open it while you press the button, or stick something in there so that it pops open when you hit the button

Sorry to hear about your experience. That shouldn't happen on a Lexus!
