Broken Wheel Stud
LS460 summer wheels removed and BMW 5 X 120 wheels with snows put on. After a 2000 km trip it came back with a broken wheel stud on the front. What is involved in changing out that stud? Is there anything else to look for regarding the installation of the BMW wheels? Thanks.
Thought I had already replied to this but here goes again.
Wheels from BMW hastily put on and trip commenced. It came back with the wheel locking nut gone and stud broken off. Questioning whether wheels are hubcentric or boltcentric. Wheel stud threads were extremely dry to the point of threads in danger of picking up. Studs on one side of car lubed, the broken one was on the side that was non lubed.

I think you may need hub adaptors for those wheels, did you have them installed?

In general the wheel bolt pattern was probably correct but the hub center on a BMW is usually bigger than Lexus. I also wonder if the lugnuts used were the right seat pattern. Only way that wheel stud would have broken off is if the wheel had come loose and was flopping around.

I hope the wheel is still OK. On the left we swapped fore and aft and put some lube on the studs because they were so dry that the threads felt like they were going to pick up. The broken stud was on the right. I know there will be comments about not lubing but the alternative would be to change them all.
I had a quick look today and the other 4 lug nuts are still tight. The strange thing is that the one that broke off still has quite a few threads sticking out. Maybe the seating part of the locking nut had quite a bit of thread relief in it.
What is the size and thread pitch of the Lexus wheel studs, and the length if that is also known?
I suppose a missing wheel nut and partial stud loss would throw the balance off a bit?

It's maybe amazing that the trip was accomplished without major incident. I'll take a printout of your link to the shop for them to figure out.
Or perhaps someone could supply me with a parts list of what lug nuts I need and where would the spacers come from?

At top of page is Lexus Special Interest Forum that is likely to have more members with this non OEM wheel knowledge. I'm with Striker, get studs and nuts from Lexus and stick with Lexus or made for Lexus rims. Trying to get a Japanese car to speak German is a specialty thing.
I don't know what the originals were but the ones it came with were 21" and they would have been terrible in the winter. The BMW wheels came with almost new 19" snow tires on them and it seemed like an easy solution at the time without the hassle of getting a new set. Around here lots of people run around with their snows on black rusty steel rims which IMO are really ugly. Hopefully we get this Beemer set to work out OK and I think we will. With you guys' input at least we are figuring out what we are dealing with.

Well this is not as bad as I thought. The 14 X 1.5 wheel nuts have regular type conical seats so no replacements required except the missing one. Hub rings are plentiful at Amazon so after I confirm the sizes I'll put in an order.
