Default Techstream. I need it. What do I purchase??

Had to bleed brakes on 2008 LS460L. Now all the brake lights are on VSC, ABS, BRAKE, all of them.
So, I need Techstream.
I see units on Amazon, and I hear about subscriptions.
What's the story? What do YOU use? Can you point me to what works?

Thank you. I'm not computer illiterate, I AM Techstream unknowing.

Thanks, Jeff

Ok, 2 ways....
1. Get a $5K (?) computer from Toyota and pay a monthly fee to Toyota to use it.
2. Get Hackstream - Go on eBay, do a search for TechStream buy a cable and CD/USB drive (under $50). This is hacked software with an activator, it's cheap and it works. Your not on the newest version but, you don't need it unless your car is a 2022.

Get a laptop, it could be anything, even going back to a old Windows 7 laptop (eBay, under $100 with some looking if needed) install CD, connect USB device, run software, connect to car, select "Connect to car"

Go on YouTube for some info on how to use...

If you have never used the software, and are not very computer literate, I would suggest spending a good amount of time on YouTube searching how to use it. The software is quirky no question.

I keep a very old laptop (XP days laptop with Windows 7 on it) in my garage just for this use. I paid $25 for the laptop and put a SSD in it to make it semi usable..

I got a Lenovo tablet with Windows 7 for $150, $25 Techstream off Ebay and initially I used a $20 adapter and it worked OK for majority of things. However, I upgraded to a better OBD2 adapter since.

If you want full functionally of Techstream, you will need something similar to Drew Technologies OBD2 adapters.

Like that, but I would use search and see what other users tried and worked. The adapter, I purchased is not available for sale anymore.

I was hoping for someone to be specific and say "buy THIS".
I am on kind of a budget, so 5K for a Toyo computer is out, but a couple hundo is just ONE service by a shop, so...

P.S. I did search, first.

Please be aware, that cheap 'xhorse' clones are very unreliable lately. Could be iffy to do something critical as brakes. Just saying. Nothing beats Drewtech device, even if used with 'trial' ahem version of TS.

Yea, that would work, and it's a updated version (read the details, the CD comes with older software and you need to contact them to get the newest one.)...

In a nut shell, unless you plan to buy a $495 cable and PAY big money to get the software from Toyota, this is the best/only way.

If you need it soon, keep in mind this comes from China/Japan and could take a few weeks to come in...

I have gotten a cable that just didn't work but, the cost of another kit vs a Drewtech ($400+), you could buy 10 of the knock off kits. Most of them will work fine.

Of course, they are China cheap stuff so every once in a while you'll get a bad one...

I do know there are limits on what the China kits can do but, what the OP is looking for, it should do fine

Agreed. I think good working clone is ok for ABS/VSC, EPS and such. Known not to work with writing TPMS sensors though.

It depends on what you trying to achieve. Cheap adapters do not support certain functionality. Even you buy a million of them, it is not going to work. It might work for what the OP trying to do but he will have to try it or somebody needs to confirm that the adapter works for with the ABS system.

I had a problem with a cheap knock off kit adding an extra key to my car. So there are limits, I know that but, just what the OP is trying to do, it SHOULD work fine.

I don't know 100% as have never did this but, it should work according to what I saw online.

I have a 2007, tried two vendors and three cables to get it working, and no joy.
After working with two vendors live help it was determined, but not conclusively, that it was old version cable imbedded software causing problems. I can’t recall the version necessary, IIRC it’s V.4??, but a quick search here should give you the answer. Cables on eBay all seem to be the old ones, and some are either mislabeled version or show no version at all. Software loaded up great and appeared functional, but communication between car and computer could not be achieved with incorrect cable.
Good luck. If you or someone else find a reasonably priced functional cable, please post.

I got it working using a virtual machine on my MacBook Pro. Anything is possible with enough internet searching.
